Moderate Republicans (RINOs) crash the House's tea party
washington post ^ | 1/17/2011 | By Ben Pershing

The week before Rep. Charles Bass lost his seat in 2006, the leader of the House GOP's moderate wing complained that it was simply "a terrible year to be running for reelection."

"I am the same candidate I was two years ago, four years ago, six years ago," Bass told a group of business leaders in New Hampshire. "I know my constituents, and they know me."

Those constituents still knew Bass last November, when they voted to give him back his former seat, part of a nationwide wave that saw Republicans recapture old districts while also adding new territory to the red column.

For all the ink spilled on the success of the conservative-leaning tea parties and their chosen candidates, the winners last Election Day included a host of centrist GOP lawmakers like Bass, the former president of the moderate Republican Main Street Partnership whose grandfather helped start the progressive Republican movement a century ago.

Charley Tuna is my congresscritter. He’s awful squishy. Better by far than the uber lib oponent he had in the general but we sure could have done much better than to send him back to Worshinton.

We reelected my conservative former congressman (out in 08). The other GOP candidate’s biggest mistake was in skipping the right to life banquet to go fundraising with the main street republicans.

My Congressman - Tom Price - began to waffle at the beginning of Bush’s second term. But since Obama took office, he has been a staunch conservative.

I guess the Post wants to see the Congressman unelected AGAIN.

He now has national Tea Party attention.

The good news, he’s pro-gun.

He won his seat against Dick Swett, who voted for the original Assault Weapon Ban.

Bad news is that he’s pro-abortion and pro-queer.

Anti-gunners can’t win in NH yet. The DemonRATS need to smuggle-in some more voters from Massachusetts and Connecticut.

They’ve already got the leftist college kids voting in their college towns as well as in their home towns. There was one boast I heard about that a student in Keene and his friends not only voted in their home towns as well as in Keene, but in several precincts in Keene.

Nice, huh?

“skipping the right to life banquet to go fundraising with the main street republicans”

Don’t you think, sometimes, that the RINO’s are just smart enough to have organized another event for the excuse to not attend, let’s say, the right to life banquet? I’m just saying....ya know?

When he was quoted as saying "We're a center-right group", it made me think of Hugh Hewitt and his pal Mitt Romney. Hewitt is right on a lot of things, but he's one of those pragmatic conservatives. Vote for the electable Republican. Problem is, those electable Republicans destroy us just as surely, albeit more slowly. They always compromise with the left.

And this is also an argument against third parties, fourth parties, etc.

It doesn't matter how many parties you create, the power junkies will immediately set themselves to infiltrate, undermine, and corrupt them, just as they are doing to the Tea Party.

It's what they do.

“The Washington Post wishes.”

I agree. You ALWAYS see these stories after Republicans take power (although never when Dems win). Anyway, this country has no clue just how conservative this new Congress will be. Those ‘centrists’ will be about as centrist as Pelosi is centrist.

"The Republican leadership in the past has paid lip service to the Northeast," Bass said. "That is something I'm going to push hard with the leadership."

Charley, ol' buddy, ol' pal, might that be because the leadership found that they couldn't count on Northeastern Republicans -- that they kept leaving the reservation on key votes?

If you're going to keep up that kind of behavior, lip service is all you deserve.

Yes, they do. Because they’re convinced they can win with independents, RINOs and dems sick of Obama. It will be a ‘kinder, gentler GOP nominee’. All pushed by the MSM. Watch.

RINOs aren’t the brightest bulbs in the building, or they wouldn’t be RINOs, but some of them are smart enough to see their careers will depend on their learning to be conservative. For the ones who don’t, there is always 2012.
