After two weeks, mystery still surrounds death of Wheeler
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 1/17/2011 | Kathleen Brady Shea

An unfitting end to an illustrious career.

That's how several West Point classmates viewed the New Year's Eve discovery of a prominent defense expert's body in a Wilmington landfill.

Two weeks after Newark, Del., police identified John "Jack" P. Wheeler 3d, 66, of New Castle, as a homicide victim, investigators still have released few particulars about the case, allowing conspiracy theorists of all kinds to draw pictures of their own.

Although the case was deemed a homicide, police have declined to list a cause, raising questions about whether Wheeler was drugged, shot, beaten, or stabbed. New information from police sources suggests he might have stopped taking medication for some sort of medical or mental-health condition.

"We're very disappointed that we've heard nothing," said Doug Thornblom, a retired Army colonel who described his roommate from West Point's Class of 1966 as a kind, respected, passionate patriot.

Randy Loftin, another classmate, said Wheeler's death shocked their tight-knit group.

"This is really off the charts for someone like Jack," Loftin said. "There are few people who would stun us like that, especially the way in which he died. He was a fabulous man, someone who was always watching your back in whatever you were doing."

Newark Police Lt. Mark A. Farrall, a spokesman for the department, declined to say whether detectives had more information and had chosen not to share it, or whether clues were scarce.

Total speculation: Either it was a hit or not.

If it was a hit, they did a lousy job. He may have even played dead.

Why no police?? He knew one of the perps and he was carrying???

My best guess right now is that he was killed with his own gun...and it wasn't suicide.

On the other hand, I'm almost inclined to think it was Marini's thugs and "who John was" takes the focus off of Marini.

Thanks for your excellent post of the Lt. General McInerney interview. We can only hope that the silence is for ultimate good purposes and not a cover-up. The interview also affirms his high-level security clearances, which throw completely into question the campaign by the MSM to make him seem a mental case.

My best guess right now is that he was killed with his own gun.... That thought cross my mind too....If they had wanted to make it look like a suicide his body would have been left where it fell. Maybe the location pointed a finger at the perp....Or they didn't know too whom the gun was registered. Suicide bodies are NOT dumped in bins. OTOH they really didn't know that the body would be found, let alone found so soon. Amateur job not an experienced hitman. Even a person watching crime shows on TV would know to put the body in a plastic bag so it wasn't in plain sight.

Sorry about that post No paragraphs, italics and no coffee yet.

Just saw the big 100+ mob arrests. Wonder if Jack had anything to do with that. Could it be the reason they have kept all the information quiet? We need to check the names of those arrested with names connected to him.

One more thing to consider: Maybe we are looking at 2 crimes?
Crime #1: related to his professional interests.
Crime #2: a crime of opportunity ending with the perp dumping his body in a trash bin.

Stranger things have happened.

Arrests made in NY, NJ, and RI....Isn’t Delaware right in the middle of those states? Why no arrests there? Is the Wheeler murder somehow a reason for the delay....Still working wiretaps?

I don’t know, but there’s at least one writer who’s trying to weave Wheeler into the mob bust...

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/6243736/fbi_mobster_crackdown_includes_bonnano.html?cat=17

Radell Hunter is the writer who has done alot of the Wheeler stuff in the Washington Examiner.

I am not up to date with my mobster history, are they heavily involved in Wall Street? I am wondering if the roots of any of these arrests go back to Wheeler’s days at the SEC and his involvement in the insider trading investigations.

The other evening, was looking up the young 18 year old thug that was arrested last summer for burglary, with last name same as the uncle who died.

There were several entries under his name that deciphering completely eluded me. Only thing recognizable was on line betting and motor cross. Someone with more knowledge that I may want to check it out.

“At a time when most of us are retired, he’s not only employed, he’s overemployed - and all in the service of his country,” said Thornblom, who with other classmates, still close to Wheeler, expressed puzzlement and regret over the mystery of Wheeler’s death.

He said Wheeler’s work on issues ranging from cybersecurity to military tactics was fueling conspiracy theorists, and he suggested that investigators’ reluctance to release their findings could make the case more difficult.

As usual, the DailyMail is way ahead of our media on hot crime stories. I did not see any clues in this story, but someone else may recognize a connection:

Wish I knew how to use the mucky-linking thing. would like to see if anyone arrested in the family below were related to certain other people. OTOH Several things stick out:

None of the family members within the families have the same last name.

... most feared families, union officials and two former police officers were also arrested...

In some families a requirement for membership is member must have committed a murder.

The DeCavalcante crime family is the leading mafia clan in New Jersey despite operating in New York City.
It maintain a strong relationship with many of the Five Families in New York plus crime families in Philadelphia, Providence and most of New England.
They have profited from labor racketeering, hijacking and murder for hire.

...snip...

A heating and air conditioning company was used as a legal front for the illegal dealings
