He did retire.

But then the DemonRAT running for that seat was disqualified by scandal, and it looked like the Republican would win the seat. The DemonRAT party, in clear violation of the election rules, threw this warmed over fish into the fray, was able to get the ballots changed at the state’s expense, and the commie RAT was elected.

Rules don’t apply to DemonRATS.

He retired in 2000

first serving from 1982 to 2001 and again since 2003.

Lautenberg announced his retirement in 2000 then came out of retirement to run again in 2002.

Lautenberg is considered one of the Senate's most liberal members. He is pro-choice, supports gun control,
