This is slightly off-topic so please forgive me. I just can’t get over the amount of awards shows nowadays. It’s unreal. I was going to go search for a list of awards shows and post them, but I tried that before and couldn’t find a comprehensive list. To me, there should be ......3...... awards shows, the Oscars (movies), Emmys (TV), and the Grammys (music). Those cover everything that is important as far as entertainment goes. Every other awards show is a waste of time and oxygen. If an actor/actress doesn’t have some kind of award they must really suck, given the number of awards floating around. Personally, I don’t watch any awards show. Spending several hours watchin a group of people I don’t like kissing each others butt doesn’t inspire me. I’d rather watch South Park or play WoW for a bit. The two worst awards shows....Tonys (gay awards) and the Image awards (racist awards). :)
We have awards show for everything except stuff that really matters..............
In the old days, the Oscars were fun to watch because that was the ONLY time we saw actors not acting. They said a gracious thank you and we still liked them after. The fantasy was unbroken.
I am trying to remember the last awards show I watched. I think it was the year 'Titanic' won everything. That's the Oscars, right?
There are so many award shows because it is hands-down the cheapest way for a production company and a network to get big ratings.
You get lots of high priced TV and movie and music talent in one room — and you don’t have to pay them.
Maybe you mount one ‘Glee’ style production number for the rubes. And the band and the director get paid. But the production costs are peanuts — no sound stages or locations, no screenplay, no acting, no filming, no special effects that take weeks, months, or even years to produce. You can put the whole thing together in a few weeks.
So all these award shows aren’t going away until the ratings diminish where they’re no longer profitable.
