NAIROBI Puntland, an autonomous Somali region home to pirates who threaten shipping in the Indian Ocean, said Sunday it was breaking with Somalia's transitional government until a legitimate federal authority is in place in Mogadishu.
The decision was made during a special cabinet meeting in the Puntland capital Garowe, said a government statement received by AFP in Nairobi.
It said the Mogadishu government "does not represent Puntland in international forums" and called on "the UN Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) to reconsider its position and support for the TFG at the expense of other Somali stakeholders".

It will be interesting to see what the international community does. The U.S. and several other countries are already working with Somaliland and Puntland as separate countries, though they wouldn't acknowledge them as such. This puts the TFG in a worse position that it already was, if it can get worse than being stuck in 12 blocks of Mogadishu. If the countries of the African Union pull their troops out the TFG is gone and Al Qaeda takes the country.
Great, I know 3000 people in our state who might appreciate the ride back.
Queen Hatshepsut was proud of her expedition to Punt. I think it has been downhill since then for Punt (apart from their contribution to American football).
