All branches meet military recruiting goals

Each of the U.S. military’s service branches met its active-duty recruitment and retention goals for the first quarter of fiscal 2011, the Department of Defense said.

“We are very proud that our all-volunteer force can still be successful in a wartime environment,” Douglas Smith, a spokesman for the Army’s Recruiting Command at Fort Knox, Ky., said Thursday.

Through December the Army surpassed its first quarter goal of 14,100 by 433 recruits, with the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force all meeting their recruiting goals or exceeding them. The Marine Corps Reserve surpassed its goal by the largest percentage with 116 percent, pulling in 2,637 recruits, 71 more than its goal.

Smith said the Army is proud of its recruiters’ ability to convey war stories effectively enough to aid recruitment.

When asked if he thought the economy was a factor, Smith said it had “a small amount to do with it ... but not a major impact.”

The four active-service branches met or exceeded their fiscal year-to-date retention goals, while the National Guard and reserve components were within “acceptable limits,” according to a DOD news release. The only branch to not meet its first quarter goal was the Air National Guard, which missed its goal of 1,564 by eight recruits.

The Army’s active-duty recruiting goal in 2010 was 74,500; that number dropped more than 7,000 in 2011. The Navy’s recruiting total increased by more than 700 in 2011 to 37,300. The Air Force active-duty recruiting goal for 2011 is 27,816, slightly less than its 2010 goal of 28,363, and the Marines goal for 2011 is 31,500, an increase of 3,500 from 2010, according to the recruiting commands for each service.

During a recession with youth unemployment between 20-50%? How’d they pull that off?

Let’s just hope the scrutiny and discipline is just as tough.

So what does this mean? That they won’t be accepting new recruits any time soon?

I read a story here tonight about some DREAM Act candidate not being allowed to join the Marines because those wascally Wepublicans wouldn’t pass the DREAM Act. The DREAM Act activists held a press conference and made it sound as though the Marines were doomed because this guy was the “perfect” Marine and was being deported instead of recruited. What’s going on?

They are getting the new guys in, to fill the slots, of the older, more seasoned troops out as a cost cutting measure.

O-2’s and E-3’s make less salary than O-4’s and E-5’s.

At least in the case of the AF.

I missed that story. And I could not comment on it wisely, as, I am not a Marine.

They can have it! I’m done being used as a political pawn for testing out new, various forms of social engineering under the banner of ‘diversity’.

If we had a Republican President, the Economy would be the only reason for it. Transparent as Obama’s soul.

One who has worked at USAREC for 4 years..everyone can be assured if they are making mission..they are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

This is not saying all the recruits are low quality..just the ones to make mission. How many waivers were issued..how many “home of record” were changed..to avoid a police check. If the recruit lives in Chicago and may have a “record”..grandma lives in Mobile..the grandma address is used. No record found. Add affirmative action..to the mix.

You have a professional cadre..with some..others less desirable. But what the heck..its the new obama army and it is going to get worse.

They are going to permit females in the infantry, armor and special ops.

Have one question..where is the female soldier going to pee from a tank when it cannot be dismounted. This I want to see.

With the economy in the shitter, the military is a guaranteed job for most anyone with a pulse. You can even be a guy that professes to love sphincters and still get hired!

Let’s give credit to whom credit is due.

Only Obama could have made this happen!

Are you stating that there are different pay scales for each branch of service?

No. Not at all.

But, I am seeing, in the USAF, a loss of good Captains, and Staff Sergeants.

They are being replaced by 2nd LT’s and A1C’s

I doubt women will be on tanks BUT if they are eventually placed on tanks it will only be with all women crews.

Women will get the cushy base jobs.

Its all talk. It always is.

women will get the combat MOS’s but they will not be in the field with the grunts, tankers, rangers..snipers..delta.. and green berets.

Once we were in a rubber plantation..the tank hit..a tree..there was a large red ant nest that fell on the turret..thousands angry ants..we had to remove all of our clothing..we wore no underwear and t shirts. Our biggest fear was the red ants..not the NVA or Viet Cong.

Ever see a tank crewman take a shower?
