Alzheimer's develops over many years, so there is no doubt that Reagan would have had some symptoms, but that didn't make him incompetent. Correct.
But the truth is, he had obviously slipped a fair bit by the time he left office. There was speculation at the time that he was in the beginning stage of Alzheimers, and that turned out to be true.
