Many Americans were startled to see University of Arizona students distributing t-shirts at the memorial service in Tucson yesterday. On the front of the shirts, "Together We Thrive" was printed, along with a trendy logo. University spokeswoman Jennifer Fitzenberger told FoxNation.com "it was our idea to do the t-shirts."

I'd put my last buck on that.

Wasn’t this the university that didn’t give Obama an honorary diploma when he spoke at their commencement because he didn’t do anything to deserve it?
If they wanted something that would be remembered in honor of the victims how about a scholarship fund in memory of the little girl that was killed? T-shirts? Give me a break.
Exactly. Every university is desperate for ways to CUT the budget. If they HAD donated $60,000, only some kind of kindness for those who were killed or injured would have been reasonable.
“Six people died and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”
To print that many T-shirts in that short amount of time raises many questions in itself. The shooting was on a Saturday and by Wednesday they had shirts? Who placed the order and when? Such a high volume of shirts in that short amount of time doesn’t quite add up in my mind.
Who paid that $60,000? Was it the UA? If so, from what fund was it taken? Was there a donor for it? If so, who?
This story wouldn’t be that hard to get a handle on for an enterprising journalist in Tuscon. $60K is a tremendous amount of money. And, virtually all large, public universities have legal obligations that must satisfied when spending that kind of money. For instance, there might open bid requirements, or there might be minority vendor requirements, or there might be capital expenditure filings that all need to be satisfied before that kind of cash walks out the door.
Don’t believe me? Read your hometown newspaper’s legal section, and I PROMISE that you will find procurement notices for your local, public college for sums of materials, products and services valued WAY below $60K. Somebody paid for these tee-shirts, and if it truly was the university, then there will be a paper-trail a mile wide. If there isn’t, there will still be a paper-trail, but probably a little harder to find. 501c-3s still have to file detailed expense reports with the IRS.
No, that was Arizona State University (ASU).
"Together We Thrive" =
"Now listen to me, all of you. You are all condemned men. We keep you alive to serve this ship. So row well, and live."
~ Quintus Arrius
Searching through CA state records, this company got its first license in California on Oct 21, 2010. I am involved with contract work for universities in Kansas. Anything over $20,000 has to be competitively bid. There are rare exceptions for emergencies, with pre-qualified contractors...but you’d have to have more than a three month history to become pre-qualified.
There is an address listed (21650 OXNARD ST STE 500, WOODLAND HILLS CA 91367); but its a high end office park - I’d say that’s the address of their attorney. A name is listed - Robert Ezra, who I have confirmed is an attorney for Ezra Brutzkus & Gubner LLP.
I found that Ezra gave $500 in 2010 to Bob Shannon, to run for Long Beach City Attorney.
A public records request should get the information out quickly. Just need to find a local person, preferrably an attorney, to make the request. Should be able to get the info within 5-10 days.
Better yet, get a local newspaper to make the request and write it up as a story.
Follow the money bump!
Or how about copies of "Faces of Hope" the book that she was featured in? A portion of the proceeds from the sale of it would be donated to the Twin Tower Orphan Fund charity. T-shirts Totally Tacky.
I own a screenprinting/embroidery company in AZ. NO WE DIDN’T PRINT THOSE. But I know the shop that did. A friend owns it. The work was done here in Arizona. They are a contract screenprinter which means that they simply print the art supplied on the shirts supplied and have nothing to do with the use of the items. People trying to track them down are barking up the wrong tree, all you will find is a contract shop that specializes in what we call “hot markets” - Diamondbacks win the World Series and you want 50,000 shirts to give out at the victory parade 12 hours later, they can do it lots of big automatic presses and 24 hour production. The real rat in this story this Los Angeles company with the “no comment”. Who paid for these and whose idea was it? I do work for college bookstores and this is not a college bookstore kind of job. They don’t have a dime to spare and coming up with $60k on two days notice is not within their power.
There is an article that dates back to 2008...Organizing for America....and the slogan at the end was “Together We Thrive”....of course. A good reporter or Drudge should find out the background of this!!!
Only $60,000 for 26,000 T-shirts?
$2.31 each for custom printed T-Shirts?
Something stinks here!
Sure it was...righttttt. Hey I have a bridge for sale!
