This is actually standard medical stuff, but wasn't initially explained. The Glasgow Coma Scale is used to evaluate head trauma patients and lists 4 different scores under "eye opening":

• spontaneous 4
• to speech 3
• to pain 2
• no response 1

It's unclear which type - pain or speech - they saw previously, but spontaneous indicates the best functional level.

I think its fair to say that most people don’t know anything about this...and most people would assume ‘Gabby opened her eyes....for the first time Gabby opened her eyes’ meant, well...Gabby opened hr eyes for the very first time. It seems like more than something poorly worded...and more like an attempt to twist the truth a bit.
