Stephen Baldwin: 'I Did a Very Foolish Thing' by Attacking Sean Hannity

EXCLUSIVE: Stephen Baldwin knows he's been a bad, bad boy. The 'Usual Suspects' actor has chosen PopEater to publicly apologize to Sean Hannity for saying he should "get off the radio" for exhibiting "petty stupidity" by bashing his older brother Alec on the air last week.

"I did a very foolish thing," Stephen admits when he reacted negatively (and publicly) after Sean played Alec's pig-headed voicemails to his then 11-year-old daughter during a Jan. 4 broadcast. "When Sean played that again, it really caused a knee-jerk reaction in me 'cause it's my brother," he tells PopEater. Watch after the jump!

(VIDEO AT LINK)

That "knee-jerk reaction" came in the form of a text-message and comments to Page Six, where Stephen bellowed, "This behavior by Hannity is the stupidity that people often refer to when they think of George W. Bush and Sarah Palin. If he needs to lower himself to petty stupidity, then he needs to get off the radio."

Them's fightin' words and the FOX News star quickly shot back by slamming the '30 Rock'-er for not fighting his own battles.

"Alec trash-mouths all the time, including me, and it's too bad he needs his little brother to defend him," he said. "I don't need lectures from any Baldwin on conservatism, religion, politics or anything else. That's one screwed-up bunch."

Stephen now says that what Sean isn't taking into consideration is that making fun of someone can be "hurtful to others. Other members of my family."

Chalk it all up to brotherly love, but Stephen now thinks he was in the wrong and is ready to attone to his fellow Christian conservative.

I played darts with him a month or so ago at a bar in Tallahassee. He didn’t seem like a bad guy.

Uh, oh. You were throwing weapons at a bullseye target? Was Palin's picture on the dart board?

I actually think it was a class act to admit he was wrong. Got to call em like you see em even if you don’t agree with their politics.

Was it the Palace Saloon near Doak? I played darts with Sinbad and shot pool with Tom Selleck there. Seems the celebs like to frequent it because it’s away from Tennessee St. and a great place to chill.

I don’t know Steve Baldwin, but I won’t bad mouth him for sticking up for his idiot brother. Also, that 11 year old girl is now about 14. There is no compelling policy reason to keep playing that recording, and it can do her no good.Sean can do what he wants, but I think he’d be better off playing those hilarious excerpts from Baldwin’s Philly radio show when he had dead time because no one would call in. That doesn’t hurt any 14 year-old girls.

If the quote, “This behavior by Hannity is the stupidity that people often refer to when they think of George W. Bush and Sarah Palin”, is accurate, it gives great insight into who and what this guy really is.

He’s not, he’s just flesh and blood like the rest of us. Nobody likes to hear bad things said about a family member. Even when the other person is right. But, being a public figure anything they say is pretty quickly spread to the whole world. Thank God I’m not a public figure. Or I would have a heck of a lot to answer to.

All Stephen had to do was praise his brother. Since that is quite impossible he attacked Hannity.

A typical lib tactic.

Sean Hannity never knows when to stop. I try to like him, but I can’t.

I don’t give much thought to Stephen Baldwin and despise his brother Alec, but this was over the top on Hannity’s part.

I thought Stephen was a supporter of President Bush. He opposed Kerry in 2004 because he thought he was too soft on defense.

In any case I thought Sean was a little nasty last week when he said he wanted to make amends with Stephen but then he said insulting things, and trashed Alec over and over. If he truly wanted to remain friends with Stephen he could have been more conciliatory.

I agree. There's plenty to chide Alec Baldwin about without replaying that phonecon between him and his daughter. And frankly, I think A. Baldwin has learned a bit of a lesson over the years. Haven't heard any mouthing off from him lately.

Sean should have considered Alec’s daughter before rehashing that old tape. Alec Baldwin has made a fool of himself on many occasions so there is no shortage of material for Sean to cite but this was likely hurtful to the still young and impressionable child. Anyone who heard it once would never forget it. It doesn’t need to be constantly rehashed.

I understand Stephen’s lashing out at Sean.

I think he needs to play the excerpts of Alec threatening violence against Henry Hyde and his wife and children.

Sean Hannity is a petulant, talking points puppet for the Republican Party. He does more harm than good, his radio program is unlistenable, a nonstop repeating of catch phrases over and over and over....He turns more people OFF to the GOP and conservatism than he helps win over. He’s not helpful.

I wish he hadn't apologized.

It's perfectly natural to defend your own brother -- even if he is a liberal scum-bag. Hannity, on the other hand, is nothing but an untalented publicity-hound who has made his career on imitating Limbaugh.

He lost me originally after fawning over Charlie Rangel for about the twentieth time. He loves power and he relishes being close to it. And, by the way, his voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
