HIDALGO COUNTY - Two men are on the run at this hour after they crashed through the international crossing at Anzalduas.

It began as a traffic stop at about noon on Tuesday. Alamo police officers pulled over a SUV after the drivers were suspiciously driving around the Alamo Plaza parking lot. At first the men seemed to cooperate with the officer.

At one point, the officer asked the passenger to exit the vehicle when he began fidgeting.

Sgt. Lupita Valdez says the driver had a Georgia license. The passenger had a Reynosa drivers license and local identification. All their documents checked out.

Everything changed when the officer asked for permission to search the SUV. The passenger jumped back inside, and they took off.

The driver got on the expressway and led officers to McAllen. He exited on Jackson Road and headed to a shopping center. Police tried to box the driver in. Valdez says her officers were trying to be careful because they knew the parking lot was full of innocent people.

The driver finally left the shopping center and headed south toward the Anzalduas Bridge. Customs officers at the bridge were alerted the suspects were heading their way. The officers put out spike strips on the road to stop the SUV. The strips punctured two tires on the left side, but the driver kept going. On two wheels, the driver ran over a cone barrier in the crossing.

Valdez says the vehicle drove straight through and made it to Mexico.

Officers don't know what was inside the SUV. Valdez says her officers didn't see any bundles or rifles, but they did see tools. She suspects the men could have been car burglars.

Valdez says the passenger in the car was recording the chase on a pink cell phone during the pursuit. She says sometimes drug dealers record their police pursuits to prove they didn't steal their drug loads.

Click on the link at the top of this thread. At the TV station’s website, there is a video player on the right side of the page. It’s one of the videos represented by thumbnails in the player.

"Valdez says the vehicle drove straight through and made it to Mexico. "

Wow! Great! Guess this means that Mexican authorities on the other side of the border apprehended them and contacted US officials.

[/sarcasm]

Ha, ha. Dream on. The lazy Mexican federale just yawned when he saw a fleeing vehicle enter his own country and went back to his siesta.

"Self deportation. 2 down, 12 million to go."

I wish I could be as positive as you. Those two a--holes will be back, stealing cars or shipping their dope.

As a resident of a border state, the only way there can be "two down" is when they're brought down by a bullet. And, for the crimes these two were no doubt perpetrating, I can think of no better fate for them than bullets in their respective heads.

No offense intended, but you Freepers in faraway places like Maine have NO idea how bad it is down here along the border. Here in San Diego, the car theft problem is huge. The Mexican gangs steal cars with impunity and, within 30 minutes, the cars are over the border. The Mexican Government doesn't give a rat's a--. The thieves are so brazen, and the Government is so corrupt, that the thieves and the subsequent "owners" of the vehicle don't even bother to replace the license plates.

A friend of mine, a number of years ago, had his Toyota Sequoia stolen out from under his nose at a car wash -- one of the Mexican employees just drove it off the lot and high-tailed it to the border. My buddy likes to surf in Mexico, and was down there a few weeks later. He saw his own car drive right by, still bearing the California plates. Of course, he was powerless to do a d-mn thing about it. Had he tried to report it to the Mexican authorities, after loud guffaws at the local police station, he would no doubt have been thrown in jail on some trumped-up charge.

I really hate Mexico -- that corrupt sh-thole of a country.

Before moving to Maine ten years ago I lived in Arizone.

Prior to that I lived in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Malibu. (Working in all three, not playing).

We got tired of the third world people the local goverments allowed to invade these areas - so we left.

Most of the time when I’m in the larger towns here I lock my car. I don’t always lock my house. My neighbors all speak english(a little french now and then). We keep our junk cars behind the barn, not the front lawn.

We stopped going back west to visit friends about three years ago. We find it very difficult to be in such sh*tholes anymore. Even for a few days.

There might be a foot of snow on the ground today; but it will go away. The problems out west will not.

There’s plenty of land available at good prices. You’re welcome to return to the USA anytime. Just remember;

IF YA’ CAN’T HANDLE OUR WINTERS, YOU DON’T DESERVE OUR SUMMERS.

Thanks for the encouragement but, aside from my griping, we live in a lovely, safe, conservative part of San Diego county (North County) and if I so much as whispered that I wanted to move, there would be a household revolt from my wife and three kids.

That said, I've always been intrigued by Maine and New Hampshire, and would love to take my jeep out on some of the offroad trails there and raise Cain. Also, I would really love the fishing and hunting.

Nothing wrong with heavy snow, I've always said, as long as you're not in a hurry to get anywhere.

My lovely bride of 23 years, for some strange reason, hates LL Bean and would think that if we moved there, our house would morph into an LL Bean outfitted cabin or something.

That said, I think you're onto something. I did take my wife on one anniversary to Colorado Springs, a wonderful conservative and Christian town, with fully four seasons -- a place I've visited frequently. She liked it but, on disembarking at SD Airport, said to me, "Tom, it's a great place but I want to retire right here in San Diego." She saw through my ulterior motives right away, "Gosh, honey, look how cheap the houses are and how great the views are of the mountains!"

Oh well, if you're married to a good Biblical woman, you can't complain if she runs your life.
