COURTHOUSE — A Norristown man, who was found guilty of drug trafficking and recklessly endangering another person, has undergone cancer treatment while incarcerated at Montgomery County Correctional Facility during the past year.

A former standout athlete at Norristown High School and Temple University, Lofton Thompson, 32, was arrested in December 2009, while a Montgomery County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force officer searched his house on Astor Street and found marijuana, drug packaging material and about $2,110 in cash, according to court papers.

Thompson reportedly agreed to secure his “large pit bull” dog before the search, and the officer agreed to let him put the dog in a cage in the basement. The man reportedly held the dog as he walked down the basement steps, and the policeman followed.

When the resident reached the bottom of the steps, Thompson put the dog down, grabbed two backpacks from the corner and ran toward the basement door as the animal lunged at the policeman and bit his foot, according to the criminal complaint.

However, the officer reportedly managed to kick the dog, and the animal then chased Thompson. The policeman reportedly pointed his weapon at the suspect and ordered him to stop. At that point, Thompson stopped, threw down the bags and put the animal in the cage. The man was then taken into custody.

In an October bench trial, Thompson was found guilty by Judge William J. Furber Jr. of possession of illegal drugs with intent to deliver and recklessly endangering another person. On Friday, the defendant was sentenced to 24 to 59 1/2 months in prison. However, he has been incarcerated since Dec. 11, 2009 and will serve rest of his minimum sentence on house arrest.

I would not be averse to let him do without any drugs he himself could not pay for. I have no compassion for anyone who deals in illegal drugs.

Once a drug addict always a drug addict. ‘’Recovering’’ maybe, but never ‘’Recovered’’.

Why don’t we just put everyone in jail in America because everybody is guilty of something illegal so we can feel good about ourselves?

When you get older, your drugs should be by prescription only. WATCH OUT!

That’s a rather facetious statement.

Everybody isn’t guilty of dealing drugs that can tear up their lives as well as the lives of others with whom they deal.

Illegal drugs do a heck of a lot of harm—especially when people are having to rob and murder to get their next fix.
