There are civil statutory remedies.

• As the Sheriff has slandered a private citizen in another state, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer should immediately order the Arizona Criminal Investigations Division (CID - Dept. of Public Safety) to take over the Loughner case entirely and relieve the Sheriff from this matter.
• The trial judge should immediately put a gag order on the Sheriff before he compromises the criminal case against Loughner any further.
• Pima County Board of Supervisors should move to suspend and then remove the Sheriff and schedule a special election for the spring.
