Fox News' Roger Ailes: "Tone it Down"
CBS ^ | 1/10/11 | Stephanie Condon

Posted on 01/10/2011 9:57:18 PM PST by pissant

In the wake of the tragic shooting in Tuscon, Ariz. that left six dead and 14 injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Fox News President Roger Ailes is saying that his network and others in politics and the media need to "tone it down."

In an interview with Russell Simmons, published today by Simmons' website Global Grind, Ailes addressed the tragedy and the partisan rhetoric some say is to blame for the incident.

Ailes to some extent defended Sarah Palin's use of crosshairs imagery during the 2010 campaign, arguing that such rhetoric was not uncommon in politics. Palin has come under criticism in the wake of the shooting for having created a "target list" of lawmakers she hoped to unseat, including Giffords. Palin released a map featuring the 20 targeted House Democrats that used crosshairs to show their districts.

(snip)

But Ailes called the use of such imagery "bulls**t" and said "both sides are wrong, but they both do it."

"I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually," the Fox News president said. "You don't have to do it with bombast. I hope the other side does that."

It would seem that TV could be at least as fast as radio. Calling up sound clips to play to support the host shouldn't be much easier than calling up video clips.

Plenty of folks have web video cams at their computer so that video calls could be the same as radio calls.

This will solve all his pesky problems and the MSM will stop saying mean things about him.

Plus he'll get invited to all the neato elitist cocktail parties.

Why doesn’t Ailes tell “Whore-aldo” to “tone it down?”

Liberals began this back in the 1960’s and came on strong after George W. Bush won Florida in 2000. They own and inflamed hateful rhetoric to new levels all during Bush’s presidency, with no objections from the media or Democrats.

If anybody needs to “tone it down,” it is they.

That any conservative or Republican falls for this trap set-up by the left is a tragedy in itself.

While they work diligently to silence dissent and opposition to their communist take-over, their hate rhetoric continues.

Don’t fall for it. If they were interested in “toning it down” there wouldn’t have been a full court press all weekend blaming the right for what of theirs did.

Very disappointing to hear this from Roger Ailes...

Exactly, what you said. Just last Friday had a conversation with a colleage who does local Theatre...has for about 20 years. He’s conservative....he almost got into a fist fight - with a woman no less - because of the vitriol of the leftists in theatre....they attack him for being a Christian Conservative, and try and bait him all the time. He tries to return the conversation to theatre or something non-political, but NOOOOO...they want to harp and harp and harp. Liberals are abusive to conservatives and it is time to fight back.

TV News works a little differently. Let’s talk about a reporters’s package.

1) You need the anchor to introduce the package.
2) You need the reporter to write and deliver the package.
3) You need the photographer to shoot the video for the package.
4) You need a video editor to edit the package.(sometimes the photographer does this)
5) You need a producer to determine when and how the package will be played.
6 You need an engineer to be sure the package is played at the right time.
7 You need a director to tell the engineer when the package should be played.
8) You need a graphic artist to design and produce any graphics that will be used in the package.
9) You need a person to type and play the “supers” for the package (these are the name and their title that often appear near the bottom of the screen).
10) You need someone to run the telemprompter for the anchor
11, 12, 13 — You need three camera people in the studio to operate the cameras in the studios that shoot the anchor.

And there’s probably at least one more person I’ve forgotten or don’t know about, since it’s been a long time since I’ve worked in TV.

TV newscasts aren’t rehearsed. But it takes a lot to produce them.

I got on Facebook and confronted a couple of people who were blaming Sarah Palin for this, asking them where they were when someone hung an effigy of Palin with a noose around her neck in L.A. in 2008. You can imagine the response I got. It’s not even worth describing.

Oh, you have dial up...I’m so sorry :( I had it too until a couple of years ago. Audio streaming doesn’t take much speed...It might work with your current connection. Here’s a link, maybe you’ll find something here...

Pat Buchanan said something similar on Channel 4 News in the UK yesterday evening.

I read Free Republic for several years on dial-up...when people posted big pictures it would really slow it down a lot. A high speed connection opens up so much additional content...hope it becomes available to you :)

I was refreshed to see many of the arguments I made posted on Free Republic today. My question: What has happened to critical thinking? None of these people on FB could understand my claim that there is no proof to link political rhetoric to Loughner’s crime. “We didn’t mean that Palin is a DIRECT cause,” they said. “Only the stuff that she and people like her say.”

But that’s what makes Fox so entertaining when their liberals and conservatives tangle on screen.
