“He worshipped the boy,” Smith said.

Parents should share the blame. They and the sheriff knew he was nuts.

Yes, that was a red flag to me....worshipping a child does not often make for a good outcome into adulthood.

Everyone knew he was nuts. Don’t place blame other than on him..

I hope that the parents of the shooter don’t expect any sympathy from me.I reserve that for the parents of the murdered 9 year old.

Worshiping requires that you blindly devote yourself to something and ignore all their failings. Just like most Obastard worshipers.

You don’t think the searing agony they are in right now is bad enough?

He killed/injured 19 people. What kind of gun was this guy using. Don’t most semi-automatic pistols hold 16 per magazine? Did he have time to reload?

Parents should share the blame. They and the sheriff knew he was nuts.

Really, what could they have done?

Years ago, it was decided that the mentally ill's civil rights outweighed their need for treatment. The viewpoint was, "you have a right to be crazy" and hands were tied. Hospitals were emptied and the insane were sent out to the streets to fend for themselves. As is the case, it is often very difficult today to get an adult mentally ill family member the care they need. All too often, they can't be institutionalized against their will until after they've hurt themselves or committed a crime and by then it's too late -for themselves and their victims.

Just a sad story for everyone involved.

I think the sheriff might be trying to divert attention from himself. It sounds as if he had some contact in the past with Jared and they knew he had some serious problems. I think there should be an investigation. We all know how the far left liberals make excuses for evil people and nut cases. As long as they are not conservative or Christian that is.

They should not be blamed unless they knew he would commit the crime of murder and did nothing to prevent it.

From the testimony of the people who knew him growing up, he was normal and happy until his senior year. That is when he began showing signs of his mental illness. It went downhill from there.

I hope people don’t hurt his parents anymore than they are already hurting by blaming them for their son’s crime. That a little better - but not much - to blaming Palin for the kook’s crimes.

I think the problem is that the sheriff could have done something about it.

Parents should share the blame. They and the sheriff knew he was” nuts.”

Why? I am the mother of a 32year old Schizophrenic son. He is currently living on the streets of Eureka California.

There is absolutely nothing his parents could have done to force him into a facility. Unless he was a threat to himself and or others. Apparently the Sheriff department knew and if he was arrested and mental evaluated, this tragedy may not have happened Saturday.

Otherwise he is over 18. I have tried to get my son into a facility many many times. Unless he wants to go and stay there he is free to wonder the streets.

It is very frustrating to say the least. I am always afraid he will become the victim or hurt someone.

Please dont start blaming the parents right now. Lets wait and see. There is enough of fingerpointing going on right now.
