I can’t believe they couldn’t get a warrant within about an hour of identifying the perp in a case like this.

“I got coal. *sigh*”

Lucky you. I didn’t even get that! If I had, I’d have figured some way to set it on fire by now! ;)

Interesting geographic/demographic differences. Here in the Northwest, people have little to no interest in one’s religious affiliation — maybe too little. We are Catholic but the kids go to a Baptist Vacation Bible School most summers and have a good time. Never any comments about our faith one way or the other. The only time I ever heard a somewhat negative comment was when I went on a date with a Southern Baptist years ago — in hindsight it was surprising she agreed to go out with me! She was OK, though, and invited me to some things. Anglican is a rare word here also but most adults would probably associate it with the Episcopalian faith — for better or worse.

On the other topic, I was an Assistant Psychologist in an inpatient facility for a while and also knew a family with similar circumstances to what you describe. That one was successful at the attempt. Very tragic. In our state also involuntary commitment has a very high bar that must be surpassed for the order. Of course, we are glad the bar is not too low or the inside of the facility would be familiar to many of us.

I don't blame the parents one little bit. I have a grown son whom I do not care for. He does not live at home, and whatever he does, the cops won't get in my house to search on his behalf without a signed warrant, and it best be right, or they will see lawsuits from here to forever. He isn't violent, just rotten, and a drunk. I thought only liberals blamed the parents for rotten kids, and now, right here on FR we want to take all of his family's constitutional rights away? I agree with you!

We are a 40 hr week country, you can’t get a warrant on a weekend. Everybody knows that!

My son, who is now 28, sure put us through the wringer when he was a teenager. He was gifted but also had ADHD, so as he got older, it was more of a struggle to keep him on the straight and narrow. He eventually grew out of it, married, had a child, has a steady job, and even bought a house last year.

The school system wanted to put him in learning/emotionally disabled classes because they didn't know what to do with his intellect in combination with his ADHD. He was never violent or cruel; he just came up with crazy ideas that usually didn't work out very well. We eventually put him in a high school for gifted kids with disabilities and he graduated in 18 months!

We're a religious family, and I prayed to God regularly to help me be a good parent. Eventually, he settled down, but I know his behavior could easily have escalated if not for the grace of God.

Somebody tell them Elian Gonzales is in there.
Damn, I always like a simple solution, worked before should work again. Holder should hire Reno as a consultant on this.

Elian or Waco?

Our godson’s attempts have involved jumping out of a moving car, running into the road in front of oncoming traffic and the last an overdose of his medications.
When he ran into traffic a driver swerved to miss him. That poor soul could have crashed and died himself or what if he had hit our godson and killed him? He would have been left with that image for life.
I am resolved that barring a miracle he will at some point succeed, I pray he doesn’t harm anyone else, physically or emotionally.
Adult services doesn’t seem interested telling me he has to be a danger to himself or others. I think the attempts show he is but they are not convinced. It’s a nightmare. He is on meds, off meds, on different meds, sleeping, depressed, hearing voices and seeing trolls who he thinks are watching him. He has put cardboard his bedroom window so they can’t see in. His mother says he has a few “quirks”. She doesn’t see that he gets to appointments on schedule and covers for him so the doctor won’t know how bad it is. sigh What more can I do? I pray every day but am still afraid to answer the phone when his mother calls because I fear the worst.

Those aren’t orange peels, those are whole oranges that have dried. I also heard there were drugs in that flower pot where he was doing some type of ritual. You can see in the pot saucer in front where something was burned. And why did the parents have it removed if there was nothing wrong with it?

Kyra is the one who left her microphone on in the bathroom during Bush’s speech and she was complaining about her then husband and mother-in-law.

It was attracting attention. If this were South Florida you could make a good argument for Santaria. However, this is Pima County AZ so you are up against a different set of traditions where they do more than burn citronella candles to drive away the mosquitos from the back porch.

For instance, they use peyote ~ and I'm sure the sheriff knows exactly where that goes on and when.

Well thank heavens that we have Constitutional guarantees then, when people have attitudes like yours.

Army officials say Loughner actually passed a urinalysis designed to detect drug use. “He didn’t fail a drug test — he admitted to excessive drug use,” an Army official says. The confession was so clear that the military had no choice. “He admitted that he smoked marijuana to such an extent that we said, ‘No thank you.’ We’re not going to accept a habitual drug abuser into the Army.’” “It’s bizarre,” another official says. I certainly wouldn’t go through the whole process only to say ‘Hey, I’ve been smoking marijuana for the past couple of years.’”

Paul Begala to right wing: Why so defensive about Arizona shooting?

Written by a Joun-O-List jerk

Begala relates that a few months back, he joked on the Stephen Colbert show that Dems should smack John Boehner with a shovel “upside his orange head.” But he now says he shouldn’t have said any such thing.

What has been striking has been their defensiveness and lack of introspection,” Begala said of right wing commentators. “

The media is “surprisingly quiet” about all facets of this
case except the ravings of the looney left about all conservatives
being at fault in it. It ain’t gonna get any better either!

“And they had 2 days to get a warrant (assuming that was the problem)”

They could have stood on the sidewalk and called a Judge. They would have been given a verbal approval in seconds!

Fro what FOX said earlier, the family put up a piece of plywood that the cops just “walked around”. It sounds to me like they were trying to get some privacy from the media. The whole “blockade” thing is blown way out of proportion.

We know nothing yet about the parents, so I’d recommend refraining from judgment at this point.

I’ve seen parents of schizophrenic kids who are over 18 try to get their sons committed and treated only to have the courts say they have no standing as the person is an adult.

And pretty much uniformly the schizophrenics are too paranoid to agree to treatment. So, they are just out there roaming around with their hallucinations and paranoid thinking.

You see, as the law stands, we have the right to be crazy, but not the right to be treated and sane.
