I used to believe that the Latvian Forest Brothers (mea brāļi) were valiant freedom fighters, but now you've explained succinctly that the rightful government, the Russians ("their judge and jury") were correct when they called them scum, bandits and illegals.

Were the juries given accurate instructions with regards to the statutes that existed at the time of the alleged offense? If they were not, their conviction means nothing except that the judge who gave illegitimate instructions belongs in jail.
