Ashley Turton, wife of the Obama administration's House of Representatives liaison, Dan Turton, was found dead in a burning car Monday morning, Roll Call and other news outlets are reporting.
Fire officials said it appeared the car crashed as it was pulling in or out of the garage behind a rowhouse in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C., at about 5 a.m. Neighbors dialed 911 after spotting the fire.
The body was discovered after fire crews doused the blaze. The fire also charred part of the garage. Nobody in the house was injured, fire officials said.
Ashley Turton worked as a lobbyist for the utility giant Progress Energy, according to Politico. She was a former staffer for U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn.
Metropolitan Police Lt. Nicholas Breul told Roll Call a joint investigation is underway. Homicide detectives were called to the scene.
"This could be just a tragic freak accident," Breul said, adding there was no indication that there was a crime committed.
The White House had no immediate comment on the incident.
Could very well be it.
That matches the Chicago way too!
I was saving pre-1982 cents in a coffee can for a Beamer like that. I guess, if their going to spontaneously combust and stuff, I’ll get a Ford instead.
A Capital Hill home like that cost $1 Million easily.
Especially when they’re backing out of garages. All the time.
Our sons are teenagers, so we have a lot of contact with millennials. I'm impressed with many of them, and see young people with their heads on straight and a seriousness of purpose. It makes me hopeful.
The only time I can remember seeing a burning car in the last couple of decades was shortly after the Green Whackos forced us to use MTBE in Californicator’s gasoline.
The first week of MTBE in our gas tanks disolving the neophrene fittings produced a lot of car fires.
We see burning cars on tv and seldom in real life.
So what caused this car to burn? A Chicago style hit?
Thanks for posting this list.
Reminds me of the list that was ciculated by retired FBI agents re the violent deaths and questionable suicides of “friends” of the Clintoons before Clintoon won his first election.
Those circulating the list asked the readers if they could, to remember a murder of anyone they knew, had violent deaths from so called unexplained accidents and/or improbable suicides like shooting your self several times in your head or back.
Hmmm.
There was to be an announcement on the merger of Progress Energy and Duke energy...today.
.I think Duke is Headquartered in North Carolina.
And how often does that happen?
If someone detects the engine is on fire after the tires get on fire, chances are they’d get out of the car.
And that makes sense...since I presume the Merger announcement would be a surprise....to most everyone!
All those details make it even stranger.
Add this strangeness to all the strangeness of John Wheeler’s murder.
I bet Sheriff Stupnik has something to say about it.
But this merger creates the biggest utility in the country:

A source familiar with the incident, speaking on the condition of anonymity because it is still under investigation, said the SUV was "about seven-eighths of the way" into the garage and was stopped "at a weird angle." He said the vehicle was heavily damaged by fire, but said he could not discuss the condition of the body.
Most of the smoke and fire damage was contained to the garage, according to Piringer, who said an adult male and several children in the house were unharmed. He said no 911 call came from the house and it is possible that the man and children were unaware of what had happened until firefighters arrived. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/crime-scene/paul-duggan/-the-wife-of-a.html
