Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Funeral of 9-Year-Old Tucson Shooting Victim

Speaking of hatred that knows no bounds or party affiliation, the Westboro Baptist Church, famous for picketing the funerals of slain members of the American military, has announced plans to disrupt the funeral of the youngest of yesterday’s shooting victims, 9-year-old Christina Greene.

The child was among the six fatalities that resulted from a shooting spree in Tucson by Jared Lee Loughner that left Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords hospitalized with a brain injury. Christina, who was the granddaughter of former Philadelphia Phillies manager Dallas Green, had just been elected to the student council at school. She wanted to attend the event to see real government in action.

Westboro’s founder, Fred Phelps has run in several Kansas Democratic Party primaries, but has never won. In his most successful bid, as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1992, he received 31 percent of the vote.

Phelps was an enormous supporter of Al Gore 1988 Democratic Party primary election and in 2003 wrote a letter to Saddam Hussein, praising his regime for being

Why don’t they actually picket gay rights rallies (because they’re agent provacateurs for the Democrats)?

Bingo. When Phelps ran for office AS A DEMOCRAT, he openly campaigned as an unabashed liberal. He's playing a rather convenient reverse psychology game.

Have the Tucson Police/Fire Department Scots Pipe and Drum bands be there in force and playing the pipes loudly. That will drive the Phelps Phreaks away holding ttheir ears in pain.

They were quite aware of what they were doing falsely labeling themselves as “Baptist”. A sorry, worthless cult trying to make themselves sound legitimate and try to throw a bad light on a real church. It ticks me off and I’m not Baptist! I’ll tell you what, if they don’t change, payback is going to be a real b@$%*.

God be with you during your deployment (and always, of course).

The unfortunate thing is that there may be some people even Jared Loughner refuses to hit.

WBC is not a cult. To be a cult, someone would have to believe the crap they say. What they are is a criminal organization masquerading as a cult.

I don't know what "IIUC" means...

Shorthand for "if I understand correctly". Like IIRC, (if I recall correctly) and a bunch of others.

If they picket the little girls funeral, then someone needs to buy a truckload of manure, and put that where these lowlifes are picketing.

You have read my mind of the last few years. Liquid manure sprayed from a truck sprayer. A beautification process of the community landscape. Even better, septic tank truck equipped with a good sprayer.

Thanks.

And to address your original question a little better:

Most if not all and I really believe "all" Baptist churches are autonomous, they may be affiliated with a particular convention, as mine is with the S.B.C. but he S.B.C. does not have any say in how individual churches are run. The S.B.C. can and does "disaffiliate" from churches they might find to be heretical and/or like the Westboro Baptist Church but as far as I know the W.B.C. never was connected in any way to any convention.

The primary purpose of the S.B.C. is that they fund missionaries through many small churches (affiliates) sending money to them for that purpose. The S.B.C. also provides literature for teaching purposes, to those who want to buy it.

Fred Phelps and his crew are no more Baptist, than I am Muslim.

Every “Baptist” I know, and I am Baptist, is frothing mad at Phelps and his church and wish they would shut up and go away.

IIUC, the Baptists don’t have a central authority which could eject Westboro and strip it of use of the name?
****

If Phelps’ crowd were a member of a particular sect of the Baptist church (like the SBC), then they (the SBC) could have WBBC removed from fellowship within the SBC, but they couldn’t have them remove Baptist from their name. The Baptist church was originally formed as a bunch of like-minded believers, in churches/groups that were independent of one another.

Referenced from: Lecture 1 (Some Unerring, Infallible Marks)- Point 3 - The Trail of Blood by J.M. Carroll:

“3. The churches in their government and discipline to be entirely separate and independent of each other, Jerusalem to have no authority over Antioch — nor Antioch over Ephesus; nor Ephesus over
Corinth, and so forth. And their government to be congregational, democratic. A government of the
people, by the people, and for the people.”

http://www.baptistpillar.com/bd0178.htm

I myself cringe whenever I hear the WBBC referred to as “Baptist.”

This just cracks me up...I have to wonder if anyone can get a restraining order placed against these idiots and arrest them when they do break that RO...

The mother of the little girl that was murdered would not be someone I would cross at this time...I believe from what I heard with her interview on FoxNews yesterday that she is not to be trifled with...

I believe the potential for violence instigated from the Westboro Baptist Church folks is a clear and present danger and that all precautions should be taken to prepare for their arrival...

I would tell the WBC folks that this might not be something you should do, turn around now, or face the consequences...

Dallas Green didn’t manage the Cubs, but he was their GM from like 1982 to 1989, and he was instrumental in building those magical 1984 Cubs that broke the franchise’s 39-year drought without post-season play. Green acquired several former Phillies through trades or free agency, including Gary Matthews, Larry Bowa, Keith Moreland, Bobby Dernier, Richie Hebner, Dick Ruthven, Warren Brusstar, and a certain minor-league shortstop with just 9 major-league at bats by the name of Ryne Sandberg.

Someone should call his despicable @$$ up and murmer the word “Skidmore, Missouri and Ken McElory” in his ear. He and the rest of his family should get the message.
