NYT, WASH PO COMMENTS GO VIRAL against Palin, Tea Party, Glenn Beck, guns and Talk Radio
New York Times ^ | January 8, 2011 | various

Posted on 01/08/2011 2:35:22 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

NYT: “….During the fall campaign, Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate, posted a controversial map on her Facebook page depicting spots where Democrats were running for re-election; those Democrats were noted by crosshairs symbols like those seen through the scope of a gun. Ms. Giffords was among those on Ms. Palin’s map….”

COMMENTS:

[snips]

--Stop this tea party madness. One civil war in our land is quite enough.

--Well, the shooter is a "real american" (as Palin would call him), not a mexican or muslim. My prayers to her family.

--Glenn Beck has spent the better part of the last two years inciting violence and hatred. This is what all of that has come to. Take that man off the air, now.

--How terrible. Such violence is an unfortunate reflection on our uncivil political scene and inadequate gun control laws, and a tragedy for all the victims.

--Terrible, sad and scary news, but not unexpected given the climate of hate since the election of Barack “Hussein” Obama, like the fringe and some irresponsible politicians like to call him. The state of Arizona seems to get crazier by the day. And it’s no surprise that the Tea Partiers and their ilk are so fond of Arizona because it’s at the forefront of many of their battles. Hopefully this is not the way the rest of the U.S. is going. Scary indeed.

Assuming that these shooting was politically motivated (wouldn’t it be a terror attack or is that term only applied to Muslim extremists?): this is a huge warning sign for the President and his security staff (“be afraid as we might be coming for you next”). And the ideological culprits can most likely be found in talk radio, and a certain cable news organization....

Projection is what liberals do best.

The latest ABC News story has dropped all of their cute implications and are reporting that the guy is pretty much a nutcase, so you just know they've found evidence that directly and conclusively contradicts the whole tea party/sarah palin angle.

One of the idiot gun grabbers who is from NY posted this

Thanks to Arizona, who allows anyone to carry a concealed weapon in public, this will probably become a more common occurrence. Republicans have given homegrown terrorists the tools and legal authority to commit this kind of crime through all of their irresponsible, draconian gun legislation. The NRA should be officially named as a terrorist organization.

The only HATE I hear comes from the Left (aka The Control Freaks). They are already judge, jury and executioner before all the facts have come out.

I guess the left looks for any excuse to shut down anyone who disagrees with Obama. The ONLY person to blame for this is the Shooter.

I believe so.

Statements from her father and Lautenberg and Linda Lopez could certainly spark violence against Conservatives congresspersons.

Noted on CNN, security has been stepped up at the US Capitol following the shooting.

Here is an excerpt from the writings of the shooter:

“If there’s no flag in the constitution then the flag in the film is unknown.
There’s no flag in the constitution.
Therefore, the flag in the film is unknown.
Burn every new and old flag that you see.
Burn your flag!
I bet you can imagine this in your mind with a faster speed.
Watch this protest in reverse!
Ask the local police; “What’s your illegal activity on duty?”.
If you protest the government then there’s a new government from protesting.
There’s not a new government from protesting.
Thus, you aren’t protesting the government.
There’s something important in this video: There’s no communication to anyone in this location.
You shouldn’t be afraid of the stars.
There’s a new bird on my right shoulder. The beak is two feet and lime green. The rarest bird on earth, there’s no feathers, but small grey scales all over the body. It’s with one large red eye with a light blue iris. The bird feet are the same as a woodpecker. This new bird and there’s only one, the gender is not female or male. The wings of this bird are beautiful; 3 feet wide with the shape of a bald eagle that you could die for. If you can see this bird then you will understand. You think this bird is able to chat about a government?
I want you to imagine a comet or meteoroid coming through the atmosphere.
On the other hand, welcome yourself to the desert: Maybe your ability to protest is from the brainwash of the current government structure.”

Idiot grabber is right. I wonder if s/he will ever come to the realization that concealed carry had nothing to do with this, at least vis-a-vis the shooter. But even if there was a law against cc, there is also a law against murder and that certainly didn't stop the shooter. So why would a cc law work?

What we don't know is if anyone with a cc permit was instrumental in the takedown. At one point the Fox ticker said the gunman was wounded. Perhaps the only thing that stood between the gunman and a reload was an armed citizen.

...Democrats were running for re-election; those Democrats were noted by crosshairs symbols like those seen through the scope of a gun. Ms. Giffords was among those on Ms. Palin’s map….”

There's no explaining the emotionally disturbed, enhanced with the addition of ignorance and anger management issues.

Crosshairs are used in dozens of instruments other than firearms. Off the top of my head, there are surveying transits, theodolites and levels; Tracking of space-related activities; microscopes; astronomic telescopes. Focusing on anything far away is not always on the mounts of a rifle.

Further, people who don't know the difference between the word "niggardly" and the "N" word are unlikely to have even a tenuous grasp of metaphors and other nuances of speech.

I suppose we can now expect a new Federal law against spoken English not understood by the ignorant, the militant progressives and the insane.

Some members of all parts of the political spectrum tend to be insane, mentally unbalanced and suffer from anger management issues. My opinion is that these afflictions are more in evidence on DU (aka Democratic Underground, aka Deficients Union) and other no-holds-barred-language communities, but people can go check for themselves.

But oddly, only conservative spokesmen can arouse the mentally marginal to violence. Neither an arrogant elected political community nor the radical "progressives" who mouth violence and profanity daily, can adversely effect the marginally mentally incompetent.

Odd, that.

They lie through their teeth Plblius6961 and they’re lapping this up like dog vomit.

Here’s how it’s being reported in the Phoenix paper:

[snip]

“...Obama said he had called Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and offered the full resources of the federal government and promised investigators would get to the bottom of the shooting.

“We don’t know yet what provoked this unspeakable act,” Obama said.

Brewer appeared visibly shaken at a news conference as she said “I am just heartbroken.”

Brewer said she has ordered flags in Arizona to be flown at half staff. She called the shooting “an unbelievable tragedy’ for the people of Arizona. She called Giffords a friend.

“I’ve grown to love and respect her. She never really played partisan politics. She was serious about her work,” Brewer said. “She is a very gracious public servant.”

Brewer was asked if how the shooting reflected on Arizona.

“It certainly doesn’t show favor on the state of Arizona, but we have a lot of good decent people here,” Brewer said.

On Saturday afternoon, about 60 to 70 people had gathered outside Giffords’ office on Swan Road in Tucson.

The mood was somber. At one point 35 people held hands in a circle, as motorists drove by honking in support. People were getting information from texts and mobile devices. At times they sang “Give Peace a Chance.”

Among the wounded in Saturday’s shooting were two Giffords staffers who were expected to recover: Ron Barber, Giffords’ district director; and Pam Simon, a community outreach worker....”

The liberal media would never blame islam for acts of terrorism carried out by moslums. They seem to have no problem blaming conservatives for the actions of a lunatic who has no known connection to conservative groups. Their double standards are blatantly obvious. They have no integrity or credibility.

Washington Post update:

[snip] “…In brief public remarks, President Obama said he had dispatched F.B.I. director Robert Mueller to the scene.

A 22-year old man was taken into custody after being tackled by people in the small crowd after the shooting. One pistol was recovered and it had what police described as "an extended clip."

The man was identified as Jared Loughner, who appears to have left a trail of Internet postings, including some that express convoluted observations about government. Law enforcement officials said they believed he was a military veteran.

Giffords, who in November narrowly won reelection to a third term, was hosting her first "Congress on Your Corner" event when a gunman ran up and began shooting her and others in her entourage with a Glock handgun, according to law enforcement sources.

Eyewitness Steven Rayle, a Tucson doctor, said he saw a young man wearing sneakers and what appeared to be navy blue sweats approach Gifford with a semi-automatic handgun raised. The man shot Giffords once in the face, he said. After Giffords fell, he said, a number of people near Giffords sought to flee but were trapped--hemmed in by the table and a concrete post. The gunman fired into the crowd, he said.

"It was so close, and sort of a tight thing, there was nowhere easy to run," Rayle said. "So most of the crowd got it, you know."

"People that were there were just sitting ducks," Rayle said. "I don't think he was even aiming. He was just firing at whatever."

After a few seconds, Rayle said, the man stopped shooting and tried to flee. …”

Shooter Video http://www.youtube.com/user/Classitup10#p/a/u/1/nHoaZaLbqB4

From the Smoking Gun:

Before its content was deleted following today’s shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the alleged gunman’s MySpace page included, as seen above, a picture of suspect Jared Loughner and a photo of what appears to be a Glock 9mm handgun atop a U.S. history textbook.

The images were among a handful of photos on Loughner’s MySpace page, where he used the nickname “fallenasleep.” Loughner, 22, was taken into custody shortly after this morning’s shooting spree outside a Tuscon supermarket. According to news reports, Loughner shot Giffords and 11 other victims with a Glock 9mm.

Similar to Craig Kilborn’s infamous “Snipers Wanted” image with George Bush. Huh NYT?
