Or are there other, better strategies for a situation like this?

Yes, there are better strategies. I just did a search in the Apple App Store on the word "Bible". Scores of apps popped up. I stopped counting at 90 and there were lots more listed.

I also did a search on the word "Christian". Again lots of apps popped up, including:
The Christian Broadcasting Network, Radio & TV
Christian Creeds
Christian Classics Ethereal Library (lots of apps for this one)
C.S. Lewis quotes and many of his other books
Christian eCards - lots of these
LifeWay Christian Resources
Christian Prayer Journal

There are lots of apps for Christians in the Apple App Store.

One rejected app does not negate a good policy of vetting apps before allowing them in the store. It is unreasonable to become indignant over the rejection of one app when so many Christian resources are available in the App Store.

Apple also rejects pornography apps.

Well and good, but the Manhattan people have tried twice and been rejected twice, so we are reasonably sure it not just a mistake. Furthermore, they do specifically identify the Manhattan app as “harmful to others” in a sociological sense. So the question is why? How does Apple find harm in a short statement affirming a few basic Christian values, yet finds no harm in an entire Bible that says the same thing, or hundreds of perhaps more devotional Christian apps? I postulate it is the product of two things. First, because the Manhattan app is NOT a whole Bible, it is easy for a casual user to go directly to the “offensive” material. Second, the Manhattan app explicitly encourages transforming Christian moral convictions into direct political action. Unlike the purely devotional religionists all huddled harmlessly around their sacred books, this kind of talk is inherently dangerous to the regime and its cronies. Therefore Apple, being of like mind, finds itself intolerant of such “extremism.” It is so deeply warped. What times we live in ...
