I’m amazed. Not that a Democrat would say it — this is straight out of the Harry Reid songbook — but that it would come from someone like Hoyer who’s not normally given to bomb-throwing. In fact, you can tell that this sort of thing isn’t his forte: As thumbnail psychoanalyses of political opponents go, it’s one of the lamest examples I’ve ever heard.
In fairness, the man’s hurting right now after being unceremoniously dumped back into the House minority. And look on the bright side: A year ago, their catch-all explanation for tea party motivations was racism. (For Howard Dean, it still is.) Now, per Hoyer, it’s upgraded to family dysfunction, a condition that’s downright sympathetic. You’re not evil anymore! You’re just … sad. Aw:
There are a whole lot of people in the Tea Party that I see in these polls who dont want any compromise. My presumption is they have unhappy families. All of you have been in families: single-parent, two-parents, whatever. Multiple parent and a stepfather. The fact is life is about trying to reach accommodation with one another so we can move forward. That is certainly what democracy is about. So if we are going to move forward compromise is necessary.
And that’s why wanting to reform entitlements necessarily means tension around the dinner table. Exit question via Newsbusters: Could the real problem with tea partiers be, in the eloquent words of Joy Behar, that “this Constitution-loving is getting out of hand”? Watch the clip and I think you’ll agree that it sounds scary. And not just because “smart liberal” Bill Press seems to believe there’s a right of privacy somewhere in the constitutional text.
To a democrat like Hoyer, a family with two parents who are married (to each other) and not of the same sex must by definition be unhappy.
That is a version of Hanlon's razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. But calling attention to their stupidity isn't going to win many of them over either. One thing that might help if we used it more is using the sheepdog named Shame to herd them away from a wolf named Envy to a place where they won't harm themselves.
Your giving him to much credit.
I watched him yesterday as the reality of the magnitude of the Dums losses struck him.
He was not being charitable..not by a looooong shot.
The Dims have taken a sudden interest in “compromise” and “bipartisanship”. There does seem, however, a lack of interest in reading, much less following, the Constitution.
WHAT AN IDIOT.
What a dumb, arrogant statement.
Hoyer is a two-bit low class scum-bag who has lived off the public teet for most of his adult life. A typical condescending Democrat hack how obviously comes from a very safe Dem controlled district.
Liberal pukes.
BTTT!
And to what do we assign Hoyer’s anger? Seems it must have something to do with being named “Steny.”
WTH is a “steny” anyway?
We need to remind idiots like Steny which party wants to give voting rights to felons.
We wont call them stupid to their faces- we just need to recognize that
Hanlon’s Razor is one of my favorites
And it would be great if we could shepherd them to a safe place- but most of them dont want to go. They think the sheepdog is an evil wolf.
This should be put in the dictionary as an example of "non-sequitur."
There were a lot of important things that my parents did not compromise on. We did the same with our kids. That is largely why we have happy families and successful kids.
Obviously, he needs our prayers.
Steny came out from under a rock.
I had the dubious pleasure of dining with one of these over the holidays at a party I was dragged to by my M-i-L (and family).
Father mercifully died of a stroke, apparently some time ago. Mother was the stereotypical nagging shrewish Northeastern all-about-me liberal.
Four kids. One a gay, neurotic Woody Allen clone. One girl - exactly like her Mom except very loudly getting out of her third marriage, talking about lesbian experiences, and with three kids who would have fit in very well at a zoo's primate house. Third was genuinely scary - didn't say much, had one of those predatory smiles that reminded me more of Ted Kazincsky, or maybe Charles Manson.
Fourth guy was a former Captain in the Army. Nice guy, two well-behaved kids, gorgeous wife. He and I were out on their porch drinking a beer, making small talk of the type that you make at parties where you know you'll never, ever meet the people again. Anyway, under the influence of a few good beers, I asked him something along the lines of "one of these things is not like the other, what's the" .... and he cut me off. "I left home at 15, worked in a mill, then joined the army.", he said.
Say no more.
Hoyer sure is an asshat. Talking about compromise within the same paragraph that puts down tea party people doesn’t result in anyone wanting to compromise with this idiot.
We won.
Geez apparently who and what the tea part is has not only went completely over their heads but not they are projecting exactly what their party is composed of onto us.I’d love to see a poll done among tea partiers about how many intact families there are in it. I and hubby are we have no kids and are ready to celecbrate our 25th wedding anniversary later this year. Happy as h*ll Stumpy errr Stenny.
Wasn’t Hoyer shot trying to rob a convenience store?
I guess the occupant in the Oval Office comes from a happy childhood home, right comrad Hoyer?
