That is a version of Hanlon's razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. But calling attention to their stupidity isn't going to win many of them over either. One thing that might help if we used it more is using the sheepdog named Shame to herd them away from a wolf named Envy to a place where they won't harm themselves.
We wont call them stupid to their faces- we just need to recognize that

And it would be great if we could shepherd them to a safe place- but most of them dont want to go. They think the sheepdog is an evil wolf.
