GRAFENWÖHR, Germany -- The Army has relieved the commander of the 172nd Infantry Brigade, shortly before the unit intensifies its training for an Afghanistan deployment this summer.

Some one pissed off a General, more to follow?
Anyone giving odds on this being over DADT? I smell a PC rat.
This guy has a lot of combat experience and attended the Army War College. They don’t select you for the Army War College if they don’t think you can cut the mustard at a higher command level. This sounds more like an O6 who couldn’t get along with his O7, who really has no right commanding a Corps. Bet he didn’t agree with some of the O7’s policies, so out he goes.
Another victim of political correctness-—Who’s next?
I thought all promotions above O-5 were political.
OK, was this one for sexist comments? Or “gay bashing”? Or maybe both?
Just looking at the photo, I sort of hate to say it, but he looks like a fruit.
What did this guy do? Look cross-eyed at a terrorist?
Well, my promotion to O6 wasn't. Beyond that, I think you're right. I knew there was no way I was ever going to make O7, so when my obligation was up, I turned in my papers.
I was being a little facetious. I know that promotions above O-7 are literally political, in that they have to be approved by the President, right?
One of my military instructors in college (an O-5) groused about promotions beyond his rank being political.
That's a lousy picture. The camera was so close it distorted his face.
This seems a little odd. He appears to have a terrific background and experience in the field.
I don’t ever recall reading a story like this. There’s obviously much more to this than we are seeing, which is next to nothing at this point.
I’d imagine he probably said, or did something to piss off the wrong person/people.
The person that fired him for 'losing confidence'. Hmmmm
Seems unusual to dump the top NCO also. It’s not like they are joined at the hip going from command to command.
Don't know about the other services but in the Navy, 90% of the time when you read that an Officer got shit canned for "loss of confidence" it means they were having sexual relations with someone other than their wife or if single someone in the Chain Of Command junior to them.
Never mind I didn’t read the whole article.
The repeal of DADT is starting to have the same effect in the US Armed Forces—it is now allowed to remove non PC officers as disloyal because they do not openly embrace the homosexual agenda.
That’s a pretty interesting comment right there.
Its always a good idea to try to find additional information before making comments on some of these articles. Those who have been wildly speculating that this was because some egotistical general was throwing his weight around, or that this was a certain sign of DADT purges, or some other brilliant comment might want to read the comments on the Army Times site, then revise and extend your remarks.
We can’t post stuff from Gannett, but go to the web site and see for yourself:
Sounds like the Corps Commander did the right thing and that’s what we pay General Officers to do.
