Even the dead can't escape the ineptitude of the city's Sanitation Department.
Sanitation crews dumped tons of dirty snow from the Christmas-weekend blizzard into the city's biggest Jewish cemetery, toppling 21 gravestones and wrecking an iron fence.
"It's jarring, and it's an emotional thing," said Yana Zhuravel, a Brooklyn lawyer whose grandparents' headstones at Washington Cemetery in Midwood, Brooklyn, were among those knocked over.
"Clearly, nobody came with the intention of doing this, I'm sure," said Zhuravel. "But when an accident happens of this caliber, you expect some form of accountability."
"We were devastated," said cemetery manager Marisa Tarantino.

They also buried and/or destroyed cars and at least one box truck parked nearby.
NYC of 2011 met the NYC of 1976...
I smell lawsuits...
Incredible! I know that woman said it was an accident, but really, how could that be accidental?
Heh. That'll fix things.
Despicable.
The Obama union thugs made sure that it was a Jewish cemetery.
Good analogy.
Let’s keep a running tally on the NY unions, so far they have:
1.Purposely sat on their asses in donut shops, not clearing streets after the blizzard.
2.Wrecked cars when they did try to clear the streets.
3.Dumped dirt on top of gravestones.
But don’t worry, if any of them lose their job, you can pay their fat pension.
I believe that the damage was occurring out of sight of the drivers; from a picture I’ve seen, it appears that a mound was growing on one side of the fence, and as it grew it slowly pushed through while dumping continued on the other side (out of sight). It is a ridiculous thing to have happen; there was just so much snow, and so much pressure on the mayor, they probably went about it in a very sloppy manner.
Come on, they knew there was a cemetary there. Do you really think they had no idea what the snow would do?
I can’t believe that it was deliberate because there is no question as to what caused it; it would hardly be anonymous vandalism. If you saw the picture you would understand what I’m describing. I have no problem giving the people who did it a beat-down, or whatever; it seems to be a genuine mistake whether you’d like to believe it was something else or not.
