Palin backs DADT repeal? (A little twitter gives us a dubious hint)
Hotair ^ | 01/04/2011 | Ed Morrissey

Sarah Palin has remained silent on the issue of repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell,” which Congress passed in the lame-duck session — at least until now. ABC News’ Devin Dwyer has been on the Twitter beat and reports that Palin retweeted a message from radio host Tammy Bruce that supports the end of DADT:

But Monday night the former Alaska governor re-tweeted a post from conservative talk show host and blogger Tammy Bruce, who is lesbian, appearing to indirectly cast support for gays and an end to the ban on openly gay members of the U.S. military.

Bruce had been commenting on the controversy surrounding a U.S. Navy commander and a raunchy video when she turned to the issue of gays in the military.

“But this hypocrisy is just truly too much. Enuf already–the more someone complains about the homos the more we should look under their bed,” Bruce tweeted, suggesting that virulent opposition to gays may reflect the individual has something to hide.

Soon after, Palin re-tweeted the message to her following of more than 350,000 followers.

It should be stressed that retweeting does not necessarily connote agreement. Dwyer’s colleague Jake Tapper has to repeatedly make that point when Tapper retweets and adds his own commentary. It does suggest a de facto endorsement when unaccompanied by a substantive response, however, and it’s fair for those who follow Palin’s Twitter feed to assume agreement in this sense, as Tammy did in her response. Nor does this specific message explicitly address DADT repeal, although that’s certainly the larger context in the issue of gays and the military.

There is some irony in this quiet positioning, if indeed that’s what this is. The opposition to repeal of DADT in the Senate was led by Palin’s former running mate, John McCain. Palin has courted the conservative base in the GOP that opposed the repeal (as did McCain himself in his re-election bid this year), but managed to avoid taking a stand either way on this issue, one of the few from which Palin has shied.

Palin hasn’t yet responded to requests for comment on the retweet, and that will probably require Palin to clarify her position for the record on DADT. If she backs repeal openly, does this open a rift between Palin and the conservative base? Or does it take the edge off of the dissatisfaction over the repeal on the Right?

There's still at least one more on this thread.

It is a power, not a duty. There is a difference. Obviously Congress is not going to regulate every little aspect of the military. That’d be silly.

It is NOT the job of the government to regulate morality.

Good riddance.

I think our second President, John Adams, has a little more credibility in this matter than a zotted FR troll.

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other."

So we'll just skip what you don't think is necessary in the Constitution?

Congress regulating the military IS necessary. Would you rather toss a coin on who makes the rules? Or should the CiC get that right? Powers are enumerated for a reason.

I actually agree with him, I just don’t think that the military is a social laboratory. If the generals have made a policy which restricts gays in the military, then they have good reason to. The military’s job is to protect our liberties, not be politically correct.

You don’t have the right to be in the military.

So you think that Congress should decide every little aspect of how the military operates? Even what equipment they buy, etc?

Another idiot. You have no “issues” with mentally ill sex perverts in the military? They already harrassed people even under DADT. Without DADT it’ll be sheer freaking mayhem. The articles below will help you understand why homos in the military is ruination. If your approval of homos in the military is based on bias, then truth won’t help you.

And yes I’m disgusted and angry seeing leftist immoral insanity trying to destroy our military and the whole country. And supported here on FR.

Strawman argument. They regulate discipline. They also fund the military. You want to change the Constitution, contact your congresscritter.

Did you even watch the West video?

You are borrowing trouble. I really don’t think chaplains are going to get court-martialed, as long as they stick to scripture. There’s no need for politics.

Scripture calls for chastity and righteous behavior, both of which are anathema to the gay lifestyle.

None of us are perfect. I have acquaintances who are serial adulterers, including a family member. I also know closeted and chaste gays. I’m uncomfortable with both, but I’m more respectful of the closeted homosexual than the flagrantly decadent adulterer.

I truly don’t think this DADT policy — which I do not like and have never supported — is going to work out as well for homosexuals as they apparently think it will.

And I still contend that the greatest gain they will realize, which we have handed to them willingly, is the sympathy they’ve gained from public whining about how mistreated they are.

Once again, I’m tired of the discussion.

So that’s it for today. Real things to do.

Your passive aggressive stance towards the repeal of DADT is almost as bad as an out out endorsement. Do not think your “cleverness” is going unnoticed. Hoping you get the ZOT.

I’d like to hear her specific position on DADT repeal, though. Some of her positions are a bit murky.

Yup. It is. Destroy the rule of law and it's foundation.

She knows that she has the conservative vote locked up and is trying to make inroads with the moderates because she does extremely poorly with them but needs them to have a chance.

Scripture calls for chastity and righteous behavior, both of which are anathema to the gay lifestyle.

It also calls for God's people to defend His laws. Your wishy washy garbage missed the mark.

Homosexuality is a sin and is NOT to be tolerated.

Don’t make me cringe anymore. This is like grinding a piece of metal against a chalkboard. I am in a totally different generation. There was a gay teacher at my school. There are gays in my family. I have gay friends.

at the same time im a born again Christian and I believe what the bible says. It is simple biology as well. A vagina is made for a penis and a penis is made for a vagina.

I also know people who do other sinfull things. and I happen to be extremely imperfect myself.

I am not in support of a homosexual agenda. This is much morre complex and complicated. There is nothing in the constitution that prohibits drinking, sleeping around on your wife.. or eating a bunch of twinkies on the couch until you weigh 500 pounds and have a heart attack. We are a free people. We may not always agree with how other people use and abuse their own freedom.

There is only one oath that truly matters in my mind. and it is the oath that every soldier, member of congress and every President must take. “Protect and defend the constitution of the United States”. If someones homosexuality interferes with their ability to do that, they should be discharged. But if they take that oath and are true to it. and not let anything else get in the way, at that point their personal life is THEIR personal life and that is between them and God.

In the final analysis, we must not throw all individuals into one group. The liberal homosexual militants probably hate non militant and non liberal homosexuals just as much as they hate us social conservatives.

we don’t have to embrace the lifestyle. Just like every adult American has the right to look a porn on the computer all day long. It is disgusting to me, we dont have to agree with it. I wonder how many guys in the military have looked at porn and told dirty jokes ? I wonder how many of the same men have died for our freedom.
