More top Republicans join Sarah-can't-win caucus
Salon ^ | 1/3/11 | Justin Eliot

Two more prominent conservatives have gone public with the increasingly familiar view that Sarah Palin simply cannot win the presidency in 2012.

The last few weeks have been very tough for Palin, with more and more conservatives voicing doubts about her fitness to be president (see Salon's guide to the criticism here) and her poll numbers dropping.

The two latest doubters are columnist George Will and the RedState blogger Erick Erickson. They take two different routes to the same conclusion. Here's Erickson in a blog post today endorsing Rep. Mike Pence for 2012:

But right now I am not excited by or inspired by any of [the potential nominees] save Sarah Palin and, as much as I love Sarah Palin, I am adamantly convinced that she cannot win given the ridiculous smears and hate thrown her way by Democrats and, frankly, by a lot of Republicans. She has been made radioactive.

And here's Will on ABC's This Week on Sunday:

Hmm, so we’re supposed to be impressed with a Salon.com Poll and an inside-the-beltway type like Geirge Will?

Sorry, this just tells me Palin is stronger than ever!

George Will won't. That's because he can't.

He should spend more time with Lindsay Lohan.

You know, it’s just strange as can be all the people who have to come out and make sure we all know that Palin is too weak, and not ready to run.

If she were really this unready and weak, why all of the attention? I mean, why don’t they come out and say that “Joe Blow” is not ready for the presidency? Why all this attention on Palin? If she isn’t ready, then i guess she hasn’t got a snowballs chance...right?

Sorry, this stinks heavily of fear! I hope Palin castrates the GOP Establishment Men! Oh, sorry, the Democrats have already done that.

Wellllll..............

The Huckster can't win, A Mormon can't win, Linda can't win, JUAN can't win, Hunter can't win, JF'nK can't win, ManBearPig can't win, H! can't win, Newt (and Nancy, kissing in a tree) can't win....

guess we'll have to go again with that

They have a right to their opinion, BUT, they also have nothing to say about it, it isn’t up to them whether or not she even runs, or whether she can win. That is up to voters, not political annalists. They thought McCain COULD win, and insist we must go to the center, so how much do they really know anyway?

Objectively speaking, I think it would be difficult for her to win for 2 reasons:

1) The mainstream media, who shape public opinion, will crucify her, as they did in 2008.

2) Like Hillary Clinton, she has a pretty high unfavorability rating, even though a lot of folks adore her.

Of course, I would vote for Palin over Romney, but I actually think he's more electable, and the polls seem to confirm that. Of course, don't get me wrong--I do NOT want to see Romney in the WH. There are definitely other electable conservatives out there. I just brought him up for sake of argument.

These non-stop sara can’t win stories are as weird as Hippie-Commie Governor of Hawaii visiting baby Obama and O-Senior and Stanley-Ann....
How is Pence on immigration...is he another “comprehensionist” ?

I wish they’d spend less time talking about who can’t win and come up with some convincing arguments about who can, and why. Too much to ask, I guess.

I would of bet against Gideon and David in the Bible. There was no way those guys could ever win and I would of been quite wrong. I was agreeing with those who were saying she couldn't win a couple of weeks ago but I have seen the light. It seems that the very unlikeliness of her survival is her greatest strength.

What it’s worth?

It’s worth witnessing the way the libtards start crowing everytime a so-called conservative “leader” opens his pie hole about Palin...

Oh well...there’s always the McCain /Powell ticket...

Erick Erickson has had a “fifteen minutes of fame” psychotic break. He so wants to be liked by the DC cocktail set.

In light of these pronouncements by “conservatives” I think the real and most important question to is is: “Are the pundits really Conservative, or front actors for Washington DC corrupt elites?”

I am to inclined to believe that they are the latter, and should be aggressively challenged on the issue. JMHO

I'd be satisfied with just a few debates between TOTUS and S!.

It has to be better than JUAN vs. TOTUS.
