USS Enterprise Capt. Owen Honors Temporarily Relieved of Duty
ABC News ^ | Jan. 3, 2011 | KIRIT RADIA

The U.S. Navy will temporarily relieve Capt. Owen Honors of his post pending investigation of the series of explicit videos he is said to have produced when he was second in command of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, sources tell ABC News.

Capt. Honors is under investigation for a series of raunchy videos in which he appeared from 2006 to 2007. The videos featured a series of skits that aimed to provide some humor during the long deployment at sea. At the time the videos were produced, the Enterprise was operating in support of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

But the skits were clearly offensive to many people. A leaked version of one video, first reported by the Virginian-Pilot newspaper on Saturday, contained derogatory references to homosexuals and was filled with profanity. At one point in the video, Honors introduces a scene in which two female sailors pretend to wash each other in the shower by saying that "chicks in the shower" were his "favorite topic."

You apparently haven’t become a shell back or a blue nose.

Another ceremony that has become totally pussyfied. It started after Tailhook with the crackdown on all ceremonies/initiations and went downhill fast after that. The last time I crossed the line I would have rather just took the watch but I was King Neptune. Mixed gender crew = totally lame ceremony, but even the last all-male ceremony I went through was on the lame side, just not as lame.

Seven ships, crossed the line on every one of them.

our relationship with zeros was much less formal and nonetheless respectful

As a former SSN zero, I have to take issue with that statement. OTOH, there was a certain function to the "disrespect," the constant pushing and keeping everyone operating up to par, ensuring that everyone could be trusted in a tight spot (because you constantly put them to the test) and that they knew their stuff.

The word faggot has ALWAYS meant "bundle of sticks" until 19th and 20th century English got ahold of it. Your explanation is categorized as an "urban legend."

From the Online Etymological Dictionary:

The oft-heard statement that male homosexuals were called faggots in reference to their being burned at the stake is an etymological urban legend. Burning was sometimes a punishment meted out to homosexuals in Christian Europe (on the suggestion of the Biblical fate of Sodom and Gomorrah), but in England, where parliament had made homosexuality a capital offense in 1533, hanging was the method prescribed. Any use of faggot in connection with public executions had long become an English historical obscurity by the time the word began to be used for "male homosexual" in 20th century American slang, whereas the contemptuous slang word for "woman" (and the other possible sources or influences listed here) was in active use. It was used in this sense in early 20c. by D.H. Lawrence and James Joyce, among others.

Wow, I didn't expect those numbers to be so high... 28% think the now captain should be punished, 30% think the former captain and/or admirals aboard should be punished...

It boggles the mind that things have become so incredibly PC among the rank and file.

DADT and this are meant to drive white’s out of the services. When enough are gone DADT will be re-established if not made far more harsher. We’ll have our barbarian military.

I never served on a mixed crew.
At least you saw a fair bit of the watery part of the world.

"EVERY officer will have problems if homosexual sex practice is required to be respected... That is what this is all about "

I guess I'm old school.

The only reason a XO of O6 rank would ever mention sex...broadcast to the entire crew...would be to talk about the dangers of VD and that if you spend your whole paycheck on whores in port you'll find yourself in the clap line.

We disagree.

The US military is in great jeopardy. This persecution of CPT Honors for a 2007 “offense” says America’s warrior leaders are apparently going to be targeted for PAST transgressions of “homosexual political correctness” that are on record....emails, videos, pics, etc.

It’s just like flaming faggots to want to get even.

I was on ssbn 619 for a spell (your namesake)...

I will agree that there was a method to the madness e.g. field days, drills, etcetera...

We are a rare breed us bubbleheads... I do not meet many in my travels...

Yes, but you know that it was a totally different situation than the surface fleet.

He made himself a clown, not a commander.

True. I honestly can't understand why an officer, much less an O6, wouldn't know better.

I am thankful that I served on fast attacks when I did. It was a different world.

Really was.

Women on submarines? What the hell is all that about?

Bad enough having 'em on tugs and tenders...

I loathed ever tying to a tender.

I'd sure like to see the readiness records for the Enterprise over the last 4 years and all inspection reports.

While I suspect they are sub-par, I don't know.

If anyone DOES know, please don't reveal it on this public forum (Loose lips sink ships)...but I wouldn't mind a private mail.

How long did it take to get Holly Graff out of the Navy? and she physically assaulted members of her crew, and was completely incompetent.

“Liberty Call” Back in the day liberty was announced (even ashore). Liberty was never assumed, you had to wait for permission, sometimes your civilian attire was inspected, and you had to have two condoms in your wallet. Those were the days.
