Fine series, and one of the most memorable and evil television villains of all time. Per a book on the Sharpe series that I have, Sean Bean recommended PP for the part of Sgt Hakeswill-they were long-time friends, and that gave their performances off each other greater resonance , because the audience ‘picked up’ on the fact that the two men DID have a shared past. PP also had an excellent, “Good Guy” role in Solomon Kane, as a kindly Puritan who aids the title character (who is one of Robert E Howard’s creations, and a much more interesting one than his more famous Conan IMO.)

He was the best part about Romeo+Juliet, probably because he spent a while in the Royal Shakespeare Company before getting into movies. He might have been the only person in the cast who had seriously done Shakespeare before.

According to Wikipedia, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1990 and had one testicle removed. He might have been dealing with it since then. Very sad. RIP Mr. Postlethwaite, you were a great actor.

I´m sure it will get me flamed, but with the exception of the inevitable dialogue cuts I liked everyone in, and and everything about it. And I´m a big time Shakespeare fan.

Just watched him in The Town

Funny, we watched the movie this weekend and I commented that he looked like he had cancer. I loved him in DragonHeart with Dennis Quaid. RIP Pete.
