They say that the phrase “American people” needs to be trashed also. Welcome to our American education system.

I do have words on my list that annoy me, but I was listening to this on Fox and Friends this morning and it occurred to me; what sort of group or people decide for the rest of us what words should be banned? Seems the height of self importance to decide that because they are tired of a word of phrase it is worthy of the trash heap.
For instance, I think the use of sammy for sandwich is infantile. On the other hand, when I hear an adult use it, it also tells me something useful about them. :)

“progressive”.

when they’re going backwards,

it’s hard to imagine progress in the making.

Sometimes bastardizing the English language to make a point is effective. For instance, I like the contraction of the word government (gub’ment) when speaking of people who have become dependent upon taxpayer money to meet their basic needs.

The word most in need of being consigned to the trash heap is “diversity”. But if that happened, these academic sorts would be unable to speak for more than fifteen seconds without becoming confounded and tongue-tied.

Progressive. Regressing back to governmental control and tyranny is hardly "progressive". Although I do love to make the comparison of progressive politics to progressive diseases like cancer that keeps on getting worse and worse until it kills you.

I think the phrase “hope-and-change” has effectively gone into the trash heap...

I never used "epic" and "viral" before, but I think I will try to epically pepper them into every viral sentence from now on.

These are the little word pet peeves that I stroke and nurture. Ha!

Worst is the 17 year old palilogy of the use of “real” in advertising. “Real this. Real that. Real overused.”

“Comprehensive”
“At the end of the day”
“Look” - always put before a statement (Rove/Hannity do it constantly.)
Misuse/overuse of word “literally” by jouralists (”Ya know, like, they literally misuse it, like, a million times - literally.”)
“Could care less” (Really? How much less could he care?)
“Irregardless”
“Cheers!” (As a salutation by Americans in emails or posts)

lol. People will get about a bazillion times the usage out of "viral" and "epic fail" as they do out of "Lake Superior State University " so which words should be banished to the trash heap???

The kind of people who ban words are the kind of people who will eventually ban and burn books.

For me the absolute worst is “decadent.” Unless we’re talking about late-19th century poets, the word “decadent” should be struck from the English language. We have taught a generation of children that “decadent” means “really yummy.”

I vote for “anal” when the words neat, particular, fastidious, obsessive, or persnickety would be appropriate.

Could the use of "gay" to describe a homosexual be banned too?

The word means "happy", liberals be damned.
