At precisely 12 o’clock on New Year’s Day, Oprah Winfrey welcomed television viewers to OWN, a cable channel that she has said will espouse her “live your best life” mantra.

OWN, short for The Oprah Winfrey Network, flickered to life in about 85 million television households in the United States, replacing the Discovery Health Channel. It is the highest-profile new cable channel in over a decade, and it represents an enormous risk for Ms. Winfrey, who is ending her daytime talk show later in the year.

“Happy New Year,” Ms. Winfrey said, “and welcome to OWN.”

Don’t worry, cable TV will be dead within ten years, to be replaced by downloads off the Internet. Then people will only have pay for what they watch and won’t have to subsidize the crap they don’t.

Cancel your cable / satellite service if they're carrying it or announce plans to do so, and let them know why. And if they don't carry it, let them know in advance that you'll dump their entire service if they try. Thanks jimbo123.

I have not taken stock in what that woman breathes, ever since “the hamburger debacle”, or any of her evil spawn, i.e., Dr. Phil or Dr. Oz. She is pro-Communist, anti-gun, loves governmental oversight of anything.

You like her? That is your choice to sleep with, at night, in your mind, not mine!

Is it possible to boycott something you’ve never watched ?

Yep, just program your remote to skip the own channel.

The best thing that could ever happen to cable/satellite TV offerings would be a requirement for a la carte.

Amen to that. I'd keep Fox News, Discovery Channel, Cartoon Network, for when the grand kiddies come over and maybe the History Channel, now that they seem to have gotten away with the Hitler/WW2 all the time crap.

I have basic cable, that and internet service cost me about $105 per month. 80-100 channels of pure garbage.

She may try but it wont be as easy as being on ABC. Now that its on cable, people that dont have it, like her prime audience, wont be able to watch it.

The saps that watched it to see how bad other people have it and cry that they are glad its not them wont be able to see it.

I didnt watch her before, I wont watch her now.
