All eyes will be on Gov.-elect Jerry Brown Monday as the 72-year-old Democrat is sworn in for a third term as California's chief executive.
. . .
Lt. Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom will be in Sacramento to attend the swearing-in ceremonies for Gov.-elect Jerry Brown and other constitutional officers, but the San Franciscan won't take the oath of office himself.
Newsom has scheduled an inaugural celebration for 1 p.m. on Jan. 10 in the Capitol Rotunda, though a spokesman said he could be sworn in sooner.
Constitutional officers are eligible to be sworn in as soon as the first Monday in January following the November election, though the term will not technically start until they take the oath of office.
Newsom's decision is a political one, albeit local. By holding off on resigning as San Francisco mayor, Newsom will ensure the newly elected San Francisco Board of Supervisors, a more moderate bunch than the current board, selects the interim mayor to fill the remainder of his term there.
Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado, the Republican Newsom defeated in the November election, will remain lieutenant governor until Newsom takes the oath of office, the secretary of state's office said.

Sorry, I misspelled Newsom in the headline.
Hopefully, rational, patriotic Americans will have enough time to flee before the collapse happens.
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Misspelling their names will be the least of problems, with what both of them will do with California during their entire political durations. Prayers for all of California and for the entire world, because they are all moving too far to the left, politically. I’m not convinced, until ALL of leftist politics throughout the entire world is soundly defeated for everybody.
Newsom makes Brown look like a saint. A bigger piece of $hit would be hard to find, even in California.
“A bigger piece of $hit would be hard to find, even in California.”
Apparently not too hard if you look at the SF supes...
“By holding off on resigning as San Francisco mayor, Newsom will ensure the newly elected San Francisco Board of Supervisors, a more moderate bunch than the current board, selects the interim mayor to fill the remainder of his term there.”
I found a comment by someone to the original article humorous. “I hope they (Californians) like it when Jerry starts slashing their programs and cutting their benefits.....”
Yeah, right. Logically, you’d think that’s what Brown would HAVE to do. Not a chance in hades. He’s going to put the petal to the metal and then head to Washington with his hand out begging for a bail out. And Obama will PROMISE to find him the billions — and the Senate will readily oblige (because their are still enough RINO’s there to make that work). So then it will ALL fall on the House — specifically the Tea Party Caucus in the House, most of them Freshmen.
DO they have enough conviction? Will they have enough clout? Even if they make it “a hill to die on,” will the RINO’s join with their old colleagues across the aisle, the Democrats and roll right over them like the Progressive machine that they are? Or will the Tea Party, outnumbered and outgunned, win another amazing battle against superior foes?
We shall see...
