Holder Urges GOP Oversight To Focus On "Substance," Not "Politically Attractive" Things

Holder Urges GOP Oversight To Focus On "Substance," Not "Politically Attractive" Things; Incoming Chairman Vows "Fair" Oversight

As House Republicans weigh how to spend their time after taking power of the oversight committees in January, Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday urged the committee overseeing his department to "focus on things that are not going to be politically attractive but will be of substance."

Before November's mid-term elections, Republicans on Capitol Hill promised to investigate allegations by two attorneys -- one currently with the Justice Department -- that the department's Civil Rights Division is "hostile" toward "race-neutral enforcement" of voting rights laws. But the Justice Department has repeatedly denied such allegations, and congressional hearings on the matter are not a sure thing, with the House Judiciary Committee yet to place such a hearing on its calendar, according to one committee staffer.

"I am committed to fair and reasonable oversight of the Justice Department and to ensuring openness and transparency of our federal law enforcement agencies," incoming committee chairman Lamar Smith, R-Tex., said in a statement.

But, Smith said, the allegations against the Justice Department are "troubling," and, "We need to make sure that our laws are being equally enforced."

Contact your congressman, senators, County Sheriff, DA, State Legislators, Governor, and County Grand Jury Foreman and demand that they indict, prosecute, convict and imprison BO and all his local co-conspirators for the Birth Certificate Forgeries, TSA Sexual Assaults, Voter Fraud, Identity Theft, Illegal Foreign Campaign Contributions, Poisoning of the Gulf of Mexico, Embezzlement of Government funds etc.

I will watch and I hope it will be enjoyable and not nerve-wracking. It will be enjoyable if — win, lose or draw — the Republicans fight hard and fight smart and never give up, never give in, and never compromise, especially in the name of “being cozy pals with all the cool people in DC”.

It will be nerve-wracking if they start to hem and haw and explain why now isn’t the time to fight this or that battle... or just completely drop any mention of this or that battle.

I do NOT have a good feeling about it. But I earnestly and fervently hope I am wrong.

I will be watching.

I’ve always thought that the reason that the incident of voter intimidation by the Black Panthers in Philadelphia was not fully prosecuted was because the justice department was afraid that the investigation would not stop at a single incident and expand from voter intimidation to voter fraud.

Remember, in the 2000 election, Al Gore won over 100% of the vote in Philadelphia. Not only did Gore win over 100%, he won more votes than there were people of legal voting age in the city.

The city of Philadelphia uses touch screen voting machines and they hired a man who had already served time in another state for voter fraud, to program the machines. They then sold the same programming to Montgomery County.

GOP Reply:

Unfortunately, YOU and the DOJ's efforts to uphold the Constitution, enforce the Law, and administer Justice lack ANY substance. That is the whole problem...

No problem, Eric. Oh, BTW... did you counsel Henry Waxman do to the same? Somehow I doubt it.

Uh, Eric, you just do your job, we will will focus on what we damn well please. BTW your budget for the voting rights section has been cut by %95. If you convict the new black panthers in Philly, a 20% increase will be added back.

Lamar Smith, 21st District of Texas, incoming chair of House Judiciary, which is Holder’s oversight committee.

Well, that's a good point. How much backbone do you think Lamar has?

Does he have it all, if Boehner starts clubbing him the way he did Joe Barton last summer?

Boehner's shown his hand --

Want to refigger any?

What I'm thinking Boehner is going to do is, he'll let Lamar turn up the heat a bit and get Holder to squirming, .....

And then Boehner will take the phone call from the White House and do a deal over Lamar's head, sell out Lamar, and cash the committee's political chips for a tax break for the Chamber of Commerce, or contracts in Ohio, or keeping an Air Force Base open.

Or maybe just a "get out of jail" card that Boehner can give some congressional RiNO good old fellow that gets caught with his pants down in the men's room.

Something like that.

That’s pretty pessimistic... although perhaps realistic...
What should we do? Should Texans traveling near Issa drop by with a note and vice-versa for those traveling to Austin?

Visitors is what will be recognized, not faxes and e-mails.
How do we present a unified front against Boehner?

I think we can post FNC?

Rep. Darrell Issa, who is poised to become the top congressional watchdog challenging the Obama administration, said Sunday that Attorney General Eric Holder should either “stop hurting the administration or leave.”

The pointed words came after Issa was asked on “Fox News Sunday” about Holder’s handling of several hot-button issues, including the possibility of legal action against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Holder has said that the Justice Department is conducting an investigation into the leak of thousands of diplomatic cables, pledging to hold accountable anybody found acting in violation of U.S. law.

Lawmakers, though, have pushed him to charge Assange under the Espionage Act. Issa, the incoming chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, suggested the administration needs to move faster.

The California Republican said Sunday that if President Obama is not treating the unauthorized disclosure as terrorism, then Holder needs to go after the leak as a criminal matter. “Otherwise the world is laughing at this paper tiger we’ve become,” he said.

“He isn’t doing enough,” Issa said. “He’s hurting this administration. If you’re hurting the administration, either stop hurting the administration or leave.”

Why did he chose those words? Why didn’t he call for a Holder resignation?

I don’t know. At first he was all great white shark, then he kinda sat down and said ‘there will be no bloodbath’, then Rush got involved, who was so either outside the story (unlikely) he mispronounced his name during an on-air segment about him out of ignorance, or on purpose. Snerdley had to step in with the correct pronunciation.

Does Boehner have Issa hogtied too?

I don’t know. They seem like they all ruin our country and go to lunch and the GOP are play acting because the tea party scared the crap out of them.

I tried to search for what Obama is planning when he returns and he extended his vacation.... The MSM are currently going ga ga over him signing the 9/11 bill in Hawaii there are 12344 articles saying OBAMA WAS “HONORED” to sign it.

Just like he went to Church was the news.....
