Kids searching “White House” can easily end up typing “com” instead of “gov” and end up at a porn site.

That has not been true, for several years now. It was true in the 1990s.

Porn is a hugely profitable business. It attracts a side of men that you don’t see every day. And some of those souls who trawl the seamy underbelly of the Internet are sexual predators.

Don't know, but my ex-girlfriend is probably from there.

Is there somewhere specific for them to access porn other than at home? Where would you suggest they access the porn?

At the pornatarium?

...70 percent of teenagers have accidentally come across pornography on the web.

Yah. Right. Accidentally.

I personally don't like porn, and try to avoid porn sites (most of them have viruses and spyware and all that crap).

That said, I can't say the number of times I've been redirected to a porn site or hit one by accident, usually because some idiot, trying to be funny or simply trying to be a jerk will have a sports story headline and link it to a porn site.

Porn operators that are trying to hack, use porn as a means for access to your computer, if they can't get you to do so voluntarily, they'll use subterfuge....Its very very annoying......

I got yelled at by my kids’ school a few years ago because of a post I made on facebook.

Both of my now 14 yr old daughters almost died of a respiratory illness when they were babies and they both struggle with asthma every time they get a simple cold. Then one of them has a brain injury and epilepsy.

Well, when the swine flu hit my kids’ school, I didn’t mention the name of the school, but said my kids had been exposed, and I asked for prayers for my daughters that they wouldn’t have a severe reaction to it if they caught. (Most of my friens on facebook are either church friends or from epilepsy parent groups.)

Several of the parents from my kids’ school freaked out that swine flu was in the school.

All I know is a teacher who I am not friends with on facebook told me that I shouldn’t post things like that on facebook.

It gave me a whole new perspective on facebook.

My kids know the story, and we are all very careful about what we post. We all make sure that we post things that we don’t care who reads it.

The only thing really scary are pictures that other people post. There are some of my son that I have had removed.

Yes. It certainly is.

My point of course is that horny teenagers are very predictable, and whenever they're caught it's nearly always an "accident."

It's not the end of the world, but parents need to do their job to guide their young 'uns. That includes making access as difficult as possible and not just passing it off as just another accident (why is this kind of thing always happening to little Johnny? I don't understand.).

Not on my machines they ain't. I'm using those.

Actually, if my eldest was viewing porn in my house, I'd call that a "win".

He's in the Army and I'd worry much less if he was here looking at porn.

Really? Thats not the world I rmember. Magazines were on the shelf of convenience stores, right there where we boys could sneak a peek. No plastic wrapper or anything. And everyone had friends whose dad/older brother had a stash of magazines to drool over.

I had a paper route when I was around twelve, and once I found a stash of 4 or 5 magazines, including a Playboy I think, in a paper bag literally in the gutter, or maybe more of a drainage ditch by the side of the road. I could show you the spot. I was like one of those cartoons with my eyes popping out of my head. Just looking at those pictures was like being in heaven. "Unfettered by binding garments" ... ah yes, I remember it well.

a free commercial grade real-time web filter is available. its developed and maintained by Bluecoat and has categories and custom whitelists, ect. i have found it to be the best available AND did i mention its free? you can get one license per email so if you have multiple computers use a separate email address to request each license.

consider http://www1.k9webprotection.com

Why can’t we have some porn control by the FCC by making it encripted access?

Yeah, more gummint can always fix the problem....

Well, during the Clintoon years the actual White House was a porn site.

Hi Brandon.

I note you recommend a web filter.

I also note the following errors in your post:

a free commercial grade real-time web filter is available

The first word in any sentence is capitalized.

its developed and maintained by Bluecoat

Capitalization error, punctuation error.

custom whitelists, ect.

Did you maybe mean "etc"?

i have found

"I" is always capitalized.

did i mention

"I" is always capitalized.

you can get one license

The first word in any sentence is capitalized.

Based upon your writing, I'm afraid nobody should trust your recommendation.

You write at a fourth grade level and should not be relied upon.

Have a fine new year.
