Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Friday three top Russian officials should spend New Year's Eve in the dark after failing to fulfill their promise to repair damaged power lines.
"You said everything would be fine by 1800 (1500 GMT)," Russia's de facto number one said in nationally televised comments to the three.
"You should not have said anything if you were not sure," he added during a meeting that included the governor of the Moscow region as well as federal energy minister and the head of the local power utility.
The televised comments were followed an hour later by news reports saying that Moscow region governor Boris Gromov was already on his way to meet the locals.
"He will visit two villages that were left without electricity and meet the New Year together with the residents," Gromov's spokesman told ITAR-TASS.
Parts of the Moscow region have been without electricity since December 26 after an unseasonal spell of freezing rain snapped power lines and wreaked havoc with Moscow's air travel.

Nice to know that there are politicians that actually care about the people. Just because Putin isn’t politically correct in his methods doesn’t mean that he isn’t good in many ways for Russia.
Assasinate a few journalists, throw an opponent or two in jail, I tell ya’ . . . it’s tough for a Russian leader to get respect.
Putin has the executive acumen of a sandlot bully.
Not exactly rule of law, but I like it.
Can you imagine Obama sending Secretary Chu to the gulf to live on a leaking oil rig until it’s fixed?
Or putting Bloomberg in a garbage truck with a plow on it until the NY streets are cleared?
We can’t even get our congress critters to live by the rules of normal citizens (the unwashed masses)!
Putin is a dictator that can’t even run the trains on time.
Or putting Bloomberg in a garbage truck with a plow on it until the NY streets are cleared?
Amen to that. The problems caused by government inaction would be substantially reduced if officials were held accountable.
If only Putin could deal with Duke Energy like this...
Wow. Putin finds a couple of fall-guys and you fall for it also.
“Putin DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY ... at least from others”
Yeah on TV so he can look good. About $300 Billion is paid in bribes in Russia each year or about 25% of their entire GDP. Now that’s accountability! Make 2 corrupt and most likely filthy rich officials stay in the dark for one night. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/26/AR2010102601429.html

It’s all in the stage name.
“Of course, there are many “fringe benefits” to being a Putin ... “
How could you forget boinking Olympic gymnasts???;)
His Olympic girlfriend/mother of his love child is a muzzie from Uzbekistan.
"You may dispense with the pleasantries, Commander. I'm here to put you back on schedule.
"
I agree—what ever you think about Putin and his methods, he get things done and takes care of Russia’s interests. You make not like him, but you have to respect him.
I’d issue similar instructions. As I mentioned, Russia is a corrupt country and many high officials live like feudal lords concerned for their own well-being rather than looking out for the interests of the people they serve. That’s not going to change anytime soon there.
“a muzzie from Uzbekistan.”
Dealbreaker right there.......
