Some of the soldiers display “on-off’ AWOL behaviors, for example, leaving the barracks in the morning ... and coming back in the evening.

That would classify as AWOL in any army in the world, nothing partial about it.

That problem and the well-known principle that “an army travels on its stomach” could easily move them to cross the DMZ and, like locusts looking for more food, touch off that powder keg.

Wars have been triggered for less critical reasons.

“Those incapable military commanders should resign.”

Yeah. What’s up with these “incapable” commanders who can’t control their starving soliders? [/s]

***N. Korea soldiers: starvation, malnutrition, AWOL, banditry, looting ****

Mayby this is dis-informantion, make us believe things are really bad in the North, trying to goad the South into an attack against what may be really well trained and fed troops.

The sorry state of the military even earned Kim Jong-un’s ire, who reportedly said: “Those incapable military commanders should resign.”

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Jong-Un will be the last of the dynasty. The country, which has suffered so deeply and for so long, 'getting told' by a youngster who hasn't earned his spurs while they starve- has got to be galling beyond belief to even the most brainwashed fanatic.

BTW- Thank you for what you do here- it is appreciated.

I saw a picture one time (I think here on FR) showing a US soldier and an SK soldier escorting an NK soldier. I don’t remember the details but I believe the NK soldier had wandered into the DMZ and was captured. The US soldier looked to be about 6’2”, and looked like he could bench press 315 and then run about 20 6 minute miles. The SK guy wasn’t nearly as big, but was in excellent physical condition. The NK soldier was about 5’2” and obviously malnourished. He looked slightly better than your average Ethiopian. If I hadn’t seen the three of them together the difference wouldn’t have nearly as obvious.

This is what happens when a country decides to go “progressive”.

Credible reports I’ve seen put the permanent early malnutrition damage to the rising generation at catostrophic for NK.

They will be fielding an army of low-IQ stunted runts. Their national future is damaged beyond comprehension. These are not big relatively fit East Germans, folded into the West. The SKs want nothing to do with caring for millions of damaged NK children/youths post reunification. They want to keep the DMZ wall up now more than ever.

It’s just part of Kim Jong Il’s attempt to keep up with modern military theory with his Don’t Feed, Don’t Eat policy.

North Korea’s system is unsustainable and coming apart fast, which leads to the million dollar question: what are they willing to do in their desperation?

This is a great time to send more helium balloons loaded with food care packages to the NorKs. What would be really cool is to have an rc helium dirigible with autopilot software.

It’s mission would be to carry a decent payload of canisters loaded with food attached to parachutes, fly near those military bases, drop the food and fly back home. Reload it and send it back out again.

Think of it like the Korean version of the Marshall Plan.

Lil’ Kim would be furious, apoplectic and have a conniption fit beyond measure! LOL!

It’s 85% humor but perhaps SK should invest in MRE-firing arty to stop an invasion in its tracks.

The unraveling continues, it seems.

Pro-liberation anti-Kim clique black ops based clandestine broadcasts, cell phone usage to spread the word (even use the damned DPRKs own Koryolink if one has to, through various methods) balloons with flyers, underground printing presses, text messages, word of mouth rumor campaigns, shortwave broadcasts any and all kinds of couriers, should kick off and ramp up defection/disloyalty enticement programs promising food (and gold bollioun if they bring over various weaponry or sabotage property of the current Kim Dynasty/KWP elite leadership such as Junior Kim's train carrying provisions in the Northern Region), on a tiered level, to soldiers and officers of the KPA in these areas. At the same time, powerful imagery along with motivating text re: Kim Jong il and Kim Jong Un has been fat and stuffed to the gills (which they are) should accompany such enticement programs to create hatred and enmity towards the Kim Inner Circle. An army travels on its stomach. The DPRK has a VERY SOFT UNDERBELLY in this regard, this is becoming a real achilles heel that, under a normal American President committed to ridding the world of this menace and helping liberate its people, could be exploited to the max.

"even earned Kim Jong-un’s ire, who reportedly said: “Those incapable military commanders should resign"

This will begin to mark the downfall of the Boy, before he even had a chance to rise. Resentment toward these most arrogrant, elitist Pyongyang-based comments by K.J.U., the "Youth Captain" SHOULD BE EXPLOITED within disatissfied sectors of the Korean Peoples Army, from the grassroots up, from squad units to sections to platoons to companies to batallions to division to regiment to Corps levels. The former titles bestowed upon him which did not make him high enough in DPRK military rank upon the Party's reflection, should be used tongue in cheek and against all recent orders prohibiting the further use of such previous titles, such as the "Young General", or the "Youth Captain."

They are on the verge of war so it could be war prep dis-information. On the other hand, NK has a lot of soldiers to feed.

What if they were to throw a war, and the NK troops show up with their bowels and chop sticks?
