France will deploy extra police and keep vandalism statistics under wraps on New Year's Eve to fight what authorities say has become an annual "sweepstakes" of disaffected youths competing to see who can burn the most cars.
Youths in depressed suburbs of French cities have been torching hundreds of vehicles on New Year's Eve and Bastille Day since the early 1990s. Police say the annual rite has turned competitive, with youths tracking the news in the first days of the new year to see which neighborhood did the most damage.

Kick the disaffected youth out of the country! They obviously don’t want to fit in a civilized country.
If that's all they do, we're pretty OK with that.
When they send bigger stuff in to our bases, it becomes a nuisance.
I'm confused.
Are you in France or Detroit?
Whicheveer it is, I hope that you'll be staying indoors...
Isn’t that special.....
Baghdad.

Absolutely.
Your post 10 just defined why America won’t ever see such car burnings.
“On the other hand, have you ever driven a Peugeot or a Citroen? Torching them might have been a public service.”
You are so right. Therefore, please have all Citroen DS-19 vehicles sent to me for safe disposal, convertibles first.
;-)
They’re pretty good cars now, great engines. Everybody world wide has the same computer driven tools, methods, controls. Defect rates from the smallest component to sub and full assemblies are minimal, and carefully tracked. Cars are commodities now, like detergent. New cars are pretty much for establishing/maintaining brand identity, much like this years new sneakers.

To these “disaffected youths” competing to see who can live in more squalid, disgusting conditions is a good thing. Truly insane.
Auto Flambe.
Ah, yes, a nip of chardonnay by the flickering fire of a burning Renault. How French. How romantic....
Unless I’m mistaken they mostly burn cars in their own neighborhoods - i.e. the cars of their muslim brethren.
Insurance companies should just stop payments for such arson. The ‘youths’ would experience some industrial-strength sharia payback right quick.
