Here’s a simple question: are all illegal immigrants — by definition — criminals?

Not long ago, I would have answered: “Yes, of course.” In fact, in a column from 2005, I said as much and urged fellow Latinos not to gloss over the fact that these people broke the rules in entering the United States without authorization. I noted that there are those who don’t like the term “illegal immigrant” because they don’t think that people trying to feed their families should be labeled criminals.

We need to have Congress define illegal entry and or presence in our country as a CRIMINAL offense !!! The government is telling us illegals in our country are not criminals, because, they say, illegals ONLY violated civil law - not crim...inal law. They tell us it's not a 'criminal' offense, because our morally corrupt, double-digit IQ, Congress inmates never made the intentional violation of laws of sovereignty border-crossing criminal offenses.... Lets look at another situation that is a total reverse of what happens in the USSA.
I am residing in the Philippines and out of the 20 plus countries that I have lived in or visited, the Philippines is by far the strictest on immigration. There is NO such thing as an illegal immigrant here, and keep in mind that this is a third world country.

Upon entry, a non citizen is granted a 21 day permit. After that, it cost me about $500 per year for visa renewals that must be done every 2 months.
All of this is in spite that I am contributing far more then the average citizen and receive nothing in the way of government assistance.
In addition, I am not allowed to work or own property.

Mexican Cartels Using IEDs in Drug Wars
Mexican drug cartels battling security forces are using the same kind of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that insurgents have been employing against coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“Mexico in the last 90 days has experienced at least three vehicle-borne explosive devices against their security forces, which look very similar to the model that we saw in Iraq and continue to see,” said Lt. Gen. Michael Oates, director of the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO).
JIEDDO is a Department of Defense endeavor to reduce or eliminate the effects of all forms of IEDs used against U.S. and coalition forces.
In its 2009 annual report, JIEDDO warned that Mexican drug cartels “may increase the use of IED TTPs [tactics, techniques, and procedures] to respond to increased law enforcement pressure.”
Speaking at the Foreign Press Center in Washington, D.C., Oates said IEDs are “being used throughout the world to impact stable governments. We track about three to four hundred incidents a month occurring outside of Iraq and Afghanistan, where people are using improvised explosive devices against law enforcement or against military security forces.”
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia use IEDs in their fight against the government, according to Oates.
The explosive devices are “easily concealable. They’re inexpensive. And they are terribly devastating, in some cases against the civilian population,” he said.
This year IEDs have caused nearly 60 percent of the casualties suffered by coalition forces in Afghanistan, AFP reported.
The potential for their increased use in Mexico is troublesome. As the Insider Report disclosed two weeks ago, the death toll in Mexico’s cartel-related drug wars has exceeded 10,000 for this year, with nearly half of the murders occurring in the U.S.-Mexico border region.

The author makes a valid point. There is a distinction between civil and criminal offenses. Virtually all of us have broken some civil law and dont consider ourselves criminals. However due to the magnitude of the problem its long past the point where we need to make illegal entry a CRIMINAL OFFENSE.
BTW, we should not accept the premise that illegals are here to “feed their family”. That’s BS, they were not starving in mexico, they are here to MAKE MORE MONEY. Of course, when they do it’s noble, when everyone else does it, it’s greed.

I guess if we go by some of these definitions, most of which it would take a first rate attorney to even begin to understand we might all be criminals.

How many people are there that has not broken some kind of law? not completely stopping at a stop sign, etc.

Why do the Mexicans come here? is it to get the welfare and all of the benefits that even most citizens can not expect? are they stealing them or are we giving it to them? could we just cut them off or would that be inhuman?

Are they coming up here to work? why is there so much work for them, is it because our young citizens are too spoiled rotten to do a days work, is it that they would rather live off of welfare or their old parents rather than to do manual work?

We elect our government reps to keep this country going the way we want, so it don,t matter what the illegals are called
the problem is in our government.

There is no doubt that Jesus was called a criminal by the Roman government but as we can see it did not have the effect that many would have liked.

I think our socialist welfare system stinks and the reason we have it is because people are becoming socialist minded, wanting the government in every aspect of their lives, wanting the government to take care of them.

I really believe we need to get our government back from the socialists and once that is accomplished we may find that we do not have a problem with the aliens.

Welfare is a fine thing, but if people who are asking for government assistance can not cook their own food like beans and potatoes maybe a little hunger would be good for them.
