If 2010 was the year America finally woke up to political Islam's ne farious reach on US soil, with luck 2011 will be the year we launch an offensive against it. One way to begin that process is through hearings that Rep. Peter King (R-NY), the new chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, plans to hold on American Muslim radicalization.
Attention to this issue offers an opportunity for American Muslims to confront the radicalization problem and provide solutions -- as only they can.
My group, the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, believes these hearings will shed light on the diversity of American Muslims, giving our community a chance to step from behind the veil of Muslim victimization and address head-on the need for long-overdue ideological reforms.
Alas, the announcement of the hearings has triggered heated denunciations by groups like ISNA, CAIR and MPAC, which try to deny and obfuscate the connection between "political Islam," or Islamism, and terror.
This year, the debate on the development of the Ground Zero mosque brought the discussion of political Islam to the front page of every newspaper. While raucous at times, it provided an opportunity for Muslims who don't toe the line of American Islamist organizations to present an alternative vision for American Muslims -- one based in American values and Muslim reform.
Unfortunately, political correctness still too often dominates incidents involving Islamists. This year, the Pentagon released a report on Maj. Nidal Hasan's Fort Hood attack, titled "Protecting the Force: Lessons from Fort Hood." The report was intended to convey to military commanders whatever lessons were learned from the incident, so as to prevent similar attacks in the future. Yet it never mentioned the word Islam or Muslim. Nowhere to be found was any dissection of Hasan's slide into militant Islamism

Don’t you know? Allah, The Koran forbid looking in the mirror.
Regardless of what these “loyal” and “patriotic” American Muslims insist, I believe that if push came to shove, they’d side with the jihadists.
Their “holy” books demand it!
They’re like the Blob in that old Steve McQueen movie, and if you think so called moderate Muslims have the courage to stand against them, you’re nuts. They’re scared stiff of Jihadists. Anyone who speaks up against them will be on their hit list. And the MSM is already calling the King hearings McCarthy like. May they roast in youknowwhere.
It is so tempting for Americans to want to believe that there are peaceful muslims out there... but I would trust this guy and his group as much as I would the ‘moderate’ muslim who started an outreach program in Upstate NY - and then beheaded his wife.
Do you think it’s just that they’re scared or that they really AGREE with them?
In the heart of their hearts, they know what Mo commanded them to do.
Jasser and his group certainly do have the courage, and they are placing their lives on the line every day. But then, they're seeking actual reform, not just the same old islam with another facade. If anyone saves islam, it will be people like Jasser and Palazzi, another fellow the crazies would like to kill.
For your information, Dr. Jasser IS a loyal & patriotic American Muslim.
” if you think so called moderate Muslims have the courage to stand against them, youre nuts. Theyre scared stiff of Jihadists. Anyone who speaks up against them will be on their hit list. “
You have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to Dr Jasser & AIFD and others. They have been speaking out against jihadists & terrorism for yrs. and have lived under threats for yrs.
No doubt that Dr. Jasser is a courageous man. But he and those like him are a microscopic minority...and even they have been ostracized by the loud mouths in the American muslim community.
If he can maintain that stance in the event of a war vs. the Muslim world, then he must be a lapsed Muslim.
Read the Koran and the Hadith!
Even if they did look in the mirror, there would be no reflection. They’re zombies.
And, given the level of tolerance to criticism we've seen from islam's "leaders," I would expect a death fatwa to be issued against him at any time.
I think you’re referring to vampires, not zombies...
Sigh...there was a time when I could tell you everything you needed to know about the difference between zombies and vampires. I hate growing older!
Absolutely. Jasser may be a great American, but he is an anomaly in Islam...even an irritant to those who want Islam to dominate the world.
” he must be a lapsed Muslim.”
As most people calling themselves Christians are “lapsed christians” because they don’t believe the Bible is the word of God, and therefore don’t believe every word in the Bible literally, and don’t live by every word.
That’s what a missionary friend believes.
To each his own.
There’s absolutely no question about it. In the end we, the non-Muslims are held in greatest contempt as Kafirs in what is translated in English to mean Non-Believers but its literal translation means “Deniers”
“But he and those like him are a microscopic minority...and even they have been ostracized by the loud mouths in the American muslim community.”
If by “ microscopic minority” you mean people who regularly very publicly speak out, you’re correct. Most are afraid to do so. As for being “ostracized by the loud mouths”, that’s a good thing.
He can call himself whatever he wants but the true believers-—those who accept the Koran as the word of Allah, which is preached in every mosque in the US and around the world-—have their own words for that type, namely “apostate” and “infidel” and view them as subject to violent punishment.
That’s a different situation than what is faced by wishy-washy Christians, Jews, Buddhists, or whatever. Those faiths all preach peace and love in their own way and don’t take revenge on people who leave their numbers. Islam, on the other hand, calls itself peaceful but is in fact a belief system full of warfare, hate, murder, lust, misogyny, and brutality. It is the only “religion” on earth which proselytizes at the point of a sword.
It SHOULD be a case of “to each his own” but people who leave Islam or merely criticize it have to deal with death threats and persecution of every sort. That creates a situation of “faking it” in Islamic countries where nominal Muslims go through the motions of outward observance and the women cover up-—all to avoid problems. Iran is a case in point.
