If Gov.-elect Jerry Brown proposes tax measures to voters next year as part of a package to resolve California's budget deficit, he may find no greater ally than David Sanchez, president of the California Teachers Association.
The 325,000-member union spent millions helping the Democrat win. And Sanchez, weary of Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and recurring cuts to education, believes Brown will sign a budget that is "hopefully not as devastating as it has been the last four years."
"I think we'll have more input, more opportunity to sit down and tell him just how tough things are in the classroom," Sanchez said.
Sanchez, a kindergarten teacher who turns 58 today, has high hopes. His parents teachers fired by school officials in El Paso, Texas, for trying to organize a teachers union moved to California in the 1960s, he said. He carries a binder with a Barack Obama sticker on one side and a Brown sticker on the other. He fondly recalls Brown's first terms as governor, from 1975 to 1983.

The head of a public employee union supports higher taxes to support public employees. Now, there’s a surprise!
I bet he does. They are all Union lovers.
The sooner they break the bank, the sooner the healing can start.
Maybe Brown will turn on Sanchez and Teachers union, like the Republicans did to us...
lol..
May the CTA have as much success with taxes as they have had with “eddikation”.
I have high hopes as well; I hope Brown rapidly takes California right into bankruptcy and establishes case law for states and municipalities. The sooner the bankruptcies begin, the better.
The socialist utopia of Taxifornia will die soon. Cannot happen fast enough really. Anyone notice the decal on the front of the notebook that the union lackey is holding?
Oba-Mao bought and paid for the unions...with out money.
Can’t wait to sign brown’s recall petition.
They need to raise taxes even higher, those people have not had enough yet, they might have more disposable income than I thought
They forgot to mention the “=” sign on Sanchez’s folder. You know the GAY symbol.
To the left of Obamas image-gee do you think he is a Socialist I mean Democrat?
Ironically, as liberal as CA is, I think the voters would NOT support a tax increase. But they want all of the “free” goodies though.
California voters love tax increases, just as long as they’re paid by other people.
