RICHMOND, Va--The leader of Virginia's Tea Party organization has officially declared her candidacy for U.S. Senate.
Tea Party Patriots Federation chairwoman Jamie Radtke has filed papers to run for the Senate as a Republican in 2012. Radtke said she was prompted to join the race due to concerns about the ballooning national debt. Former senator George Allen, also a Republican, is expected to announce plans that he will also run for the seat held by Democrat Jim Webb, who has not said whether he'll seek reelection.

Jamie has my vote. It is very refreshing not to have to deal with the same old tired VA politics. I hope Allen stays out and runs against that scumbag Warner.
I wonder if Matt Moran from the COD campaign is available for this race.
That would be the best outcome, but I’m not sure he would do it. Allen had some serious weight with Conservatives in VA, but I’m not sure what will happen now that the Tea Party has thrown it’s hat in the ring.
Can someone fill me in on Jamie? I don’t know anything about this person.

Yeah, no doubt about that. I looked up some info on her and it seems that she’s a pretty solid conservative across the board but then again I was just looking at the Richmond Tea Party site so who knows.
If Karl doesn’t like her though, I know she’s a keeper.
Excellent! The good people of the Commonwealth will have a choice - not an echo - in who they select as their next Senator.
I can already see what happens in 2012. Radtke runs against Allen. Radtke loses big because she has minimal name recognition and makes a number of easily-avoidable blunders in her campaign. Radtke’s Tea Party supporters blame her loss on 1) the “establishment” knee-capping her, and 2) those stupid, stupid voters in the Virginia Republican primary who are just too obviously stupid to know how to vote right. The Tea Parties run her as a third party candidate, stripping just enough votes away from Allen to give Webb another term.
You are probably right, which is terrible because we are counting on Virginia voting republican to get both the senate and presidency back.

While I hope that isn’t the case and that Allen waits until Warner is up for reelection to take his seat, I have to admit that I can see your scenario taking place also.
Best case scenario, Warner and Webb both lose to Conservatives. Worst case would be that internal fighting in the conservative camp lets both Warner and Webb not only hold onto their seats but puts a bad light on the Tea Party.
A couple of points I’d throw out:
1) The Tea Party candidates (in general) stand a much better chance of winning if the various Tea Party organisations can become more politically savvy. It’s one thing to talk about how an “everyman” can run for political office, it’s quite another to actually successfully pull it off. The problem is that when politically savvy people run and win, even if they have the best of intentions, they are more likely to become corrupted by the system. It’s like our political system has a perverse way of selecting for political skill, while simultaneously corrupting that skill. We end up with more Caesars and Crassuses, and fewer Ciceros and Catos.
2) Somebody needs to hide Karl Rove in a cave in the middle of Greenland until December 2012.
Agreed that it’s going to take some serious effort on the Tea Party’s part at becoming more political savvy while attempting to remain uncorrupted, but that’s what must be done. It’s not a matter of if it can be done or not, it’s a matter of how to do it because it has to be done.
As for your second point, why let Rove out in 2012? We don’t need him or his kind in our politics ever again, so let’s put him out of business completely. Hide him in a cave if you wish, but make sure to block the cave entrance when you leave.
Good point. Maybe we can put him on a rocket and shoot him off into space. Do they need political hacks on Mars?
