More than one-third of RNC members have publicly stated their intentions.
According to The Hotlines latest whip count, Michael Steele continues to fall behind former Wisconsin GOP chair Reince Priebus in his bid to maintain his position as chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Iowan Gentry Collins has picked up one delegate, bringing his total to three and leaving him badly trailing in the race for the RNCs top spot.
As of Monday, Priebus was publicly supported by 22 voting RNC delegates, compared to only 12 behind Steele. Former Michigan Republican chair Saul Anuzis is breathing right down Steeles neck with 11 pledges delegates, and former RNC co-chair Ann Wagner is in the mix with 10 supporters.
With the Jan. 14 vote for the next chairman fast approaching, over one-third of the RNC delegates have publicly stated their voting intentions. As noted two weeks ago, Steeles deficit in supporters is likely closer to the sum of all the challengers delegates rather than just Priebus alone, as those RNC members have already decided to back someone besides the incumbent Steele and will be likely to switch their allegiance to one of the other challengers once their initial favorite drops from the ballot.
The Hotline also reported that Priebus has managed to pull away a key Steele ally for his corner:
""On Sunday, California national committee member Shawn Steel made public his decision to back Wisconsin Republican Party chairman Reince Priebus. The Californian had been a key member of Steeles kitchen cabinet and one of the incumbent chairmans top defenders.
The defection, rumored for a week, is seen as a major blow to Steeles dwindling re-election hopes.""

“”More than one-third of Republican National Committee members have declared their support for one of the six contenders seeking the chairmanship, and with just over two weeks to go the race remains wide open.
The big movers over the weekend: Former RNC co-chairman Ann Wagner, who picked up support from the West Virginia delegation, and former Bush administration official Maria Cino, who announced her first public endorsements. Those nods came from several highly-regarded voters who have served on the committee for years.
So far, at least 64 committee members have publicly said they back a candidate. We consider an endorsement either a comment in a publication or a release from a candidate’s campaign. Missing any names? Email us and let us know.
The Hotline’s latest RNC whip count:
REINCE PRIEBUS (22)...
MICHAEL STEELE (12)...
SAUL ANUZIS (11)...
ANN WAGNER (10)...
MARIA CINO (6)...
GENTRY COLLINS (3)...
UNDECLARED (104)””
IMO, this is where Sarah Palin could do allot of good for the advancement of Conservatism.
She should be the RNC Chair.
In fact I think she could do more here than she could right now at the President.
Reince Priebus sounds very promising. I definitely like his pro-life views and is against gay marriage. He says he wants to consult his family but who is that Mom and Dad? Wife? Children? Just want to get a bit more information on his so that we don’t end up with a DADT candidate. He does seem pretty conservative though.
You have a great point! Palin is a perfect choice for the GOP Chair!......Tom Selleck would be another excellent choice, however since he won’t step up, Sarah Palin is imho, top Pick!
The RNC Chair election will be January 15. Contact your state RNC members and lobby for a conservative choice against Steele.
Reince Priebus? Not exactly a house hold name.....too young, and looks weak..........the GOP needs a known face with strength behind the face and the person.
Oh yeah—the RNC chair is so much more influential than the president.
True. Are we running out of time though?
I did some cursory research on Reince Priebus.

He appears to be a staunch conservative but there is some question about his involvement with stimulus funds.
I definitely don’t support Mary Cino who a Rino diversity choice.
There appears to be only 3 choices for conservatives:

Reince Priebus, Gentry Collins and Saul Anuzis are the only candidates that I see have committed to supporting pro-life pro-traditional marriage candidates. I’m not to hot on Saul Anuzis and don’t know much about Gentry Collins.
I personally think maybe Steele’s return might not be so bad. Sure he said some stupid crap and did some stuff that looked bad but Steele has learned the hard way and has responded to the grass roots. Plus I’m sure a lot of the things he said were in line with an internal strategy agreed on internally at the RNC after Obama won in 2008 which explains some of the stuff he said that appeared out of character. I think personally that many of the big wigs want to put someone in that will pave the way for Romney and moderates. Steele is not perfect but I’m not excited by any of his replacements.
Can’t we find someone in the RNC named Bob?
Sarah would be great. She would rewrite the role of RNC chair.
from the list above:
ANN WAGNER
Booyakasha.
Yeah,Priebus looked good to me until it looked like the Barbours were backing him; that has me worried. Too bad Steele has been so horrid, because I think part of his heart is actually with the tea partiers instead of the Establishment.
We need someone who looks like John Wayne. ;-)

Looks weak, unknown? Lol....Before McCain picked Palin she was a backwoods Gov. of Alaska. Priebus led the Wi Republicans to pick up the Governor’s office, throw 3 term incumbent Sen Feingold out of office, pick up two of the five US House seats the Rats held in Wisconsin, and helped the Republicans gain control of BOTH houses in the state legislature.
No other state in the union saw as big a blue to red shift as Wisconsin, and Priebus is in large part responsible for that. He recruited quality candidates for both the US House seats the Republicans gained, as well as encouraged Ron Johnson to run for Senate, and helped pick a lot of the new Republican state legislators.
Steele was a known commodity and look how that turned out. Reince is a rising star and your superficial analysis is pretty pathetic.
