Russia's Air Force received four new Su-34 Fullback fighter-bombers on Tuesday as part of its current modernization program, an Air Force spokesman said.

Russia started full-scale production of Su-34s in 2008 at a Novosibirsk-based aircraft-manufacturing plant, a subsidiary of the Sukhoi Aircraft Holding.

A total of 70 aircraft will be delivered by 2015 to replace outdated Su-24 Fencer fighter- bombers, which are currently undergoing modernization to prolong their service life.

Designed by Sukhoi, the $36-million Su-34 fighter-bomber is a two-seat strike aircraft fitted with twin AL-31MF afterburning turbofan engines.

It is designed to deliver high-precision strikes on heavily-defended targets under any weather conditions, day or night, and is equipped with a 30-mm GSh-301 cannon, up to 12 Alamo or Archer AAMs, ASMs, and bombs.

Is this just a side by side Flanker or much bigger?

It’s a beefed up strike variant.

F-22 bait, unless BHO gives them up also.

I wonder how the Russians will do against our gay air force?

Entry through the nose wheel well.

There's a head, galley, and bunks onboard. I don't think the F-111 had those accommodations.

They will send only their prettiest male pilots on a mission, as a distraction.

Not a bad job for an external stores strike fighter. Reasonably close to a Strike Eagle and possibly better than some F-18 variants from a pure airframe perspective - the Russians are making progress technologically and they are actually deploying it.

It seems the Air Force guys are correct in their analysis that we cannot count on having a qualitative edge going forward.

Doesn't matter... Production of the F-35 and F-22 are going to be stopped. All new fighters will be two-seat tandem arrangements with a single shared "ejection seat."

But hey, at least on parade and in formation our pilots will look better in their tailored and tastefully accessorized flight suits! ;-/

Add guns, bombs and missiles and it sounds like the ultimate recreational vehicle.

The Strike Eagle is still a generation ahead and with much more capable avionics, as well as an ability to carry external stores and STILL have range and maneuverability over that RCS drag monster.
