They already made wood burning in firplaces illegal in some parts of California. I think it was the San Jose area, they have special “sniffer” patrols during cold snaps looking for smoke from fireplaces, only natural gas fires allowed.

Actually, using
downed tress and large branches in wood stoves is reducing CO2. If left to rot and/or be eaten by termites et al, the wood adds CO2 to the atmosphere anyway. If used in the wood stove, the same CO2 is produced, but you have used less utility-provided energy and thus reduced CO2 emissions there.
Of course, if this current cooling continues, we may be praying for more CO2 in the air.....
