Global warming explanations made up as they go along
Orange County Register ^ | December 22nd, 2010 | Mark Landsbaum

Posted on 12/27/2010 6:25:18 PM PST by neverdem

You may have heard the fascinating explanation for the cold weather sweeping the globe. Yeah, some say that global warming is making the earth cold. There’s, of course, better explanations, but don’t expect to hear them from the global warming alarmists.

We’ll provide some comments on this canard for you on the warmists’ inability to have predicted, let alone explain, the cold snap, though:

“You can make up any analogy you want, but the fact is that computer models don’t show that change,” Pat Michaels, a climatologist and senior fellow at the Cato Institute told The Daily Caller. It is, said Michaels, the “core problem of climatology:” “It is attempting to explain everything even when everything becomes contradictory.”

And this:

“They make this stuff up as they go along,” said Myron Ebell, director of the Center of Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

“This failure to skillfully predict any of the extreme weather patterns we have seen in the past should be a wake-up call to policymakers and the public that the climate science community is overselling the prediction skill that is possible,”

writes Roger Pielke Sr. “Unfortunately, they also continue to miss the significance that it is the regional circulations that matter much more, not a global average anomaly, as I discussed on my post:

An Example of Why Regional Weather Patterns Are More Important Than A Global-Average Temperature Anomaly

“… Moreover, until and unless they can skillfully predict observationally documented CHANGES in the statistics (probabilities) of the different major circulation patterns, their explanations are necessarily flawed. There is no evidence that the global climate model multi-decadal predictions (and even shorter term runs on a year or less into the future) have the needed skill.”

But what the heck, why not implement a bunch of costly rules...

The prosecutor is having lunch with the same guy, who was supposed to be responsible for checking out the birth certificate of those running for President.

“Why don't we err on the side of caution” is the catch phrase of the moment”.

That is right out of UN Agenda 21 and the Rio Declaration's from the Earth Summit in Rio 1992. These were signed by Bush Sr. and implemented by Clinton with Executive Orders.

It's the Precautionary Principal. No scientific evidence of certainty needs to exist to precipitate action.

If they dream one night that the earth is warming then that's all it takes to shut down the rest of American industry.

Okay, it's all BS. Easy enough to establish this.

The real question is, why do we let them continue to force their will upon us via the EPA and any other agency that can spew out economy killing regulations?

Who is doing anything about it? A few scheduled hearings in the next congress does not mean their is an imminent fix to this fraud. All I see is a lot of bleating but nobody is doing anything other than complying with what they are told to do. I previously stated Texas would fall into line with the mandates of the EPA, and although they put up a little fight, in the end, they are going to capitulate and allow this nonsense to continue.

Congress will NOT “defund” the EPA, so that option is clearly a pipe dream that has no chance of becoming reality. The SCOTUS will not deem the EPA unconstitutional, so that avenue is a dead end.

The question is, what are we prepared to do about this? The only answer I've seen that is realistic is... nothing. Acceptance and let's gripe and whine and moan about the next “issue”.

Time for a better game plan. I have no idea what that might be, but our current strategy is not working.

All of this brings to mind Plato's 'Allegory of the Cave'.

Problem is, just who is in the cave?

The Earths temperature goes up one degree or so and ALL is catastrophe.

Significant changes in the global temperature can cause problems. That said - I do not believe the current process for evaluating changes in temperature averages are valid at all, nor do I think that using a baseline set in the 70's (a historically cool period) is valid.

But changes in climate do occur and they have impacts. My biggest question is - what is the role of mankinds activities. Personal opinion - the impact is spatially limited to urban heat islands primarily and to a lesser extent large scale irrigation. The larger scale influences of global climate fluctuations are dominant, and our activities in the grand scheme of things are like an ant pissing in the wind.

And while every global warmist is presenting the precautionary principle to stop a 1-2 degree increase in global temps, as if they could accomplish such, I hear very little about precautions for a 1-2 degree drop in global temps. And in reality that is where the serious threats lie. Life in general does well in warmer climates. Life in general suffers when temps drop. Heat waves make the news, but many more die from cold than heat.

For all their blather about skeptics rejecting “science”, real science requires theories to be falsifiable.

It's really one for the comedians.

Let's see, the Weather Service can't predict three weeks’ weather with more than 50% accuracy.

The same Global Warming (aka Climate Change) Eco-nuts are predicting things for out to a hundred years with absolute certainty.

Cough, cough, cough. Bravo sierra.

Agreed. I've spent a bunch of time trying to convince people that 1) it's not going to be a catastrophe (ever) and 2) there's nothing we can do about it anyway short of nuking China. I've convinced a few people but most just seem to either not care or swallow the MSM propaganda. By the time our economy is destroyed it is too late and they will still buy some ridiculous propaganda that the economy was actually destroyed by global warming.

Greenies have all been trained to respond to any temperture or weather data that they encounter as being proof of global warming....

If it’s hot it is global warming. If it gets cold it is global warming. If it just a nice day out then it is global warming too!!!!

If you get to gain the confidence of a greenie and really get them to reveal themselves then you see that they have an elitist attitude and hatred for mankind.

It is very pathetic and sad.

Have a Nice Day!!!!

This proves the phrase I have coined for the Leftists, “Warm globally, cool locally” which was supposed to be a parody of their, “Think globally, act locally.”

Parody becomes reality but not surprisingly when it comes from the Left.

The mentally deranged Left knows no bounds when it comes to pushing the limits of parody and absurdity.

Fox news had a debate about Man-made Global Warming on one of their programs tonight. One of the people kept saying, “97% of scientists believe in Man-made Global Warming.” This statement was never refuted.

A quick search on the internet turned up this article which says that statement is a LIE!

Jesus talks about the ‘end to come’ just prior to Mark 13:8; Luke 21:11

I appreciate your reply. Your phrase "just prior" is not in the passage - you changed it from "but the end is not yet" which means "this isn't the end" unlike the change made by the fear-mongers to "this is a sign of the end"; you also deleted "these are the beginning of birth pains" which is also saying "this isn't the end". You mentioned you prefer the NIV, but I prefer the Greek and from Luke we have 'άλλ' ούκ εύθεως το τέλος' which emphatically states that this isn't the sign of the end.

You also emphasized "fearful events", but our LORD told us that these things had nothing to do with the end times because He said "do not be terrified", "fear not, for these things must take place". One might argue that He is reminding us that he will be with us, but that can't be true because later we read "when armies surround Jerusalem... flee to the mountains" with special emphasis on making great haste in getting out of Dodge.

My argument that earthquakes, famines, wars and fearful events have nothing to do with the End Times is supported in these passages, and is buttressed with the days of Noah and Lot. You dismissed them by, only saying that it involved day-to-day activities, but you conveniently skipped over "and did not know until the flood came..so also will the coming of the Son of Man be". This is a very important phrase because it clearly states that there was no sign whatsoever of the end - yet Dispensationalists are constantly running around pointing to any earth tremor, troop movement and weather or astronomical anomaly as being a "sign of the end". (Noah preached the Gospel, not catastrophism). We also can't avoid Lot's reaction. The angels warned him, he went out and told his sons-in-law who didn't believe him. Lot didn't believe it since we read that he slept well that night not making any preparations to leave because there were no signs. They literally had to be taken by the hand and dragged out of the city since the evidence around them said "peace and safety".

Even if you don't like that comparison, you can't avoid Matthew 24:43 "But know this that if the master of the house had known what hour...". This can't be waved off as "no man knows the day or hour" because if earthquakes, famines and fires are signs of the End, you don't need to know the hour, you just read the New York Times. The various signs and catastrophes are similar to the thief showing up in an unmuffled truck, rap music blaring, crashing through your hedges and garage door, whooping it up and firing off guns with his friends just before kicking down your door and coming in - and this after calling you at work and again at home taunting you about his intentions to rob you as he is driving over. Our LORD said, "fear not, these are not the signs since they must happen anyway". And indeed human civilization since the Garden has been characterized by wars, rumors of wars, pestilence, famine, earthquakes and other catastrophes - unlike today where a generation has gone by that has not known war, famine, and pestilence - exactly the opposite of what the fear-mongers are scaring you into believing.

This is all rather moot anyways since these particular passages refer to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD, not some future event yet to come. The clues here are the very literal "when you see armies surrounding Jerusalem" which the literal interpretation would be "when you see armies surrounding Jerusalem" not "when you see an oil spill in the Gulf" or "when the land vomits out the inhabitants of the US for their sinfullness".

We also have in Luke "they will deliver you up to the synagogues...". This is another passage that the Futurists willingly dismiss and ignore because it doesn't fit the narrative. Though Jews have been a constant hinderance to the Gospel and have through history been the greatest enemy to Christianity, in this end times calculus, why don't you folks explain the absence of Christians being tortured and killed by Jews? Isn't this a very specific warning made to Christians regarding the environment of the End Times? If Jesus was referring to pre-fall Jerusalem, this was fulfilled (just read Acts); if it is as Lindsey and LaHaye claim, then you are adding to the pile of clippings removed from the Scripture that don't fit the Futurists' template.

From the long view of History, the whole world is living in the best of times. No other time in all of human history has mankind enjoyed so much peace and prosperity given the backdrop of so much sin and corruption. Of course, Christians are being slaughtered almost as fast as they are being saved in the Congo (six-million and counting), but the Church is exploding in size in the Far East, so I guess its safe to say that from the Christian perspective, it isn't that much different from the day after Pentacost.

A 10-20% hit on the world economy from carbon caps in developed nations would cause people on the margin in poorer countries to die. Lots of them.

Reduced economic output has consequences. Of course, socialist control freaks couldn't care less about the poor.

"I knew Global Warming was BS right from the start."

I knew it when I started watching their movie propaganda. They use phrases like: "Oceans COULD rise IF temps keep increasing..."

or: "Hurricanes COULD become more deadly IF Carbon emissions continue to increase.

Never any solid predictions of exactly how much the temps will increase or exactly when these dire consequences would commence.

In other words all of it was "smoke and mirrors" and nothing more.
