“For rural, somewhat self-sufficient types,a real blizzard is an awesome and beautiful display of God’s expression in nature followed by some work to dig out and a few days of peace and quiet.”

Amen (from the Burbs) - was out shovelling @ 4AM, quite peaceful. I’m guessing 14” but it was fairly light, fluffy.

......touting more-or-less exactly what you described....

Billy, one could not possibly make up the crap that is inundating our fair land. All one can do, apparently, is observe, report, and prepare to fall back to Nova Scotia.

Yep. When I lived in Maine, we called this "Winter".

Just like the locals here in the south call it "Summer" when it's a little hot in August.

But, what do I know. No government grants handed out for common sense.

And, I dunno about Nova Scotia. I had the pleasure of going to Halifax in the wintertime (back when I lived in Maine and was used to the cold) .....and I've never seen cold weather like that before. Absolutely shattering, made a cold day in Bangor feel like T-Shirt weather.

I'm sure it's nice in the summer, though. :-)

I bought a brand new VW as soon as I got home in `71,paid $2K for it and put 90K on it and sold it for more than I paid for it in the gas shortage times

Sure wasn`t much of a heater unless you going 50 mph

Remember loaning it to my bro once when he took it on a date,he went parking I guess and he didn`t know the trick of putting it in reverse...he was p***ed at me later that nite after pushing it about a 100`

Oh for pity’s sake. This is utter crap. I grew up in Massachusetts- it snows there in the winter. Sometimes quite a bit. Granted- I haven’t lived there in 28 years (omg where did the time GO) but it’s hard to believe people in my home state have become such wusses they aren’t prepared for winter.

And yes. It’s true. We DID walk to school in the snow! However, it was only up-hill one way...on the way home we slid downhill on our rugged New England butts and had a blast:)

You don’t understand Beacon Hill. This is called a Four Day weekend. Well, since Friday is a day off too, they might as well just take the whole week off. Me, I was at work on time.

Does this mean that privately owned firearms will now be confiscated by the state or Feds?

For rural, somewhat self-sufficient types,a real blizzard is an awesome and beautiful display of God’s expression in nature followed by some work to dig out and a few days of peace and quiet.

That's how I felt this morning while shoveling...something about snow on trees all around you is very, very peaceful (that and knowing the coffee was brewing inside while I was shoveling).

This is NOT a "state of emergency" storm. We have had much, much worse. This is a "we get a three day weekend after all" storm for state workers. It raises the age-old question: if they are "non essential workers", why are they on the payroll?

For the record - SIX STATES declared “State of Emergencies” - it just allows the governor to act without the Legislature to get certain things done - like plow roads, open armories, etc, etc.

Actually I live in Michigan. ;)

I don’t think the oil spill is something anyone could be ready for on a regular basis.

And Katrina? Only have to look where it actually caused havoc to get why that was a problem.

People in the NE are such winter drama queens.

No! It is the politicians who are the drama queens. The people are just (mostly) stupid.

Hey, AGW *causes* severe winters. It also *causes* famine, drought, and Republican victories in red states.

Patrick is a “state of emergency”. Also a “state of stupidity”, “state of idiocy”, “state of irresponsibility”, and “state of stupid”.

He looked into the mirror and then declared a “state of emergency” when it broke.

The mirror said, in response to the question, “Who is the fairest of them all”, “It ain’t you, bro.”
