Luke 2: 1-20 The Story of Christ's Birth
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and lineage of David), to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord come upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: "Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this king which is to come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us." And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
I saw on the History channel today that Mary had several children...not just Jesus....
Merry Christmas to Freepers everywhere.
Thank you Lord for bridging the gap between yourself and man, which we could never do.
Does make more sense for Sukkot. Everything in His timing so there must have been something significant to the date of Jesus birth. Who knows? Simchat Torah would be nice especially as you stated, JOY OF THE WORD.It seems to jibe. I like that and never heard that suggestion before. I wonder if we'll ever get the dates before we see Him face to face.
Agreed, and I’m sure Jesus doesn’t care as long as we praise Him for who He is, what He’s done, will do and never forget the true meaning of His birth.
Pontius, when he took over int he region, sent very trusted soldiers to live among the Jews, to learn their religion and customs. These were not spies, they did not try to hide their aqllegiance to Rome. But they did submerse themselves in Judaism as best they could I suppose. Cornelius may have been one of those soldiers, and he may have been present at the crucifixion. I’m working on a fiction piece which has Cornelius at the center of the story and his conenctions to certain members of the Sanhedrin.
I read somewhere that there is a lunar cycle progrma which can give the lunar cycles as back through time as anyone could want. I wonder, in 3 thru 1 BC what modern calendar date would correspond to the Birth of Jesus based upon the lunar cycles which direct the Jewish feast days?

I would bet it would fall within the Leo zodiac signs ...
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.....on those living in the land of the shadow of death.....a light has dawned.
For unto us a child is born....to us a son is given...... he will be called.....
Wonderful Counselor....Mighty God ......Everlasting Father......Prince of Peace.

Thanks for posting that!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
The real Hope and Change. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
There are several New Testament verses confirming this. From what I have been told though is that Catholics do not believe this is true, that Jesus was an only child.

55 Isnt this the carpenters son? Isnt his mothers name Mary, and arent his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Arent all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?
The Case for the Date of Our Saviors Birthshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
James was murdered, so the legends say, while praying in the Temple during the final destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. It was also James who, as recorded in Acts 15 gave the verdict regarding what to tell the gentiles converting to the new Way. James had lived his life apparently as a devout Jew, yet when he met Jesus following the resurrection, James immediately became a believer in the divinity of Jesus, and continued to try his very best to live by the Torah yet shepherd the infant church based in Jerusalem.
Thanks for the link. INteresting read. I do subscribe to the notion that the ‘star’ phenomenon was due to a conjunction of a major planet and a rather bright star. I happen to believe the ‘star’ was as miraculously sustained in the sky as the piller of fire and smoke the Jews followed in the desert ... it was perhaps a light source within the atmosphere or just beyond the atmosphere, based upon the arc motion depicted. I personally think Jesus was born in 3BC and crucified in 30 AD.
Second sentence should read ‘I do NOT subscribe’
I also learned that they picked and chose what to put in the Bible...because they believed some and not others. This just ruined my credibility issue with the Bible...
I guess some of Mary’s writings they didn’t like so they didn’t add it to the Bible at all. ?????
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the literacy rate in ancient Palestine is usually figured as being under 3%. The chance that Mary, a woman of humble means born in 16 BC or so in a mainly agricultural portion of Galilee, would have been taught to read and write is pretty minute. There is ample reason to question the authenticity of any supposed “writings” by Mary. I would also doubt that Joseph was literate - Jesus probably acquired whatever literacy he possessed (and there is only one passage of the Bible that I am aware of where he is described as “writing”) in connection with his visits to the temple and the likelihood that, having shown an early talent for preaching, he was probably given a thorough religious education.
