When Chris Cooley walked out to the Bass Pro Shop parking lot Tuesday evening and discovered his truck had been stolen, his first thought wasn't about the cost of losing the new Ford F-250, or the 20-foot trailer loaded with six new cattle gates that was attached.
His first thought was about his puppy J.B., an 11-month-old, fourth-generation champion golden retriever in the back of the truck.
He's just really sweet, Cooley, 45, said. He just loves everybody.
In hopes of getting his dog back, Cooley said he's offering a $10,000 reward.
I don't care about the truck or the trailer, he added. All I care about is my dog.
Named after famous Alamo defender Jim Bowie, J.B. went everywhere with Cooley. So when Cooley and his friend drove to the North Side shopping center, J.B. rode along. They put him in the bed of his maroon 2010 diesel pickup and parked in the far back of the lot.

Me too. I hope the dog is OK.
I pray this will have a happy ending for the pup and his owner.
I understand. If my dog went missing I would put up 10 or 20k for her return.
Let’s hope that it does not go to a Vick type!
Okay, just HOW EASY is it to steal a 2010 ford truck?
I mean crap, this is 2010. Do they not have an ignition lock device that prevents auto theft?
If it were gas, I guess you could pull the rotor.
(I know, old school theft prevention)
OOps,
I failed to see it was a diesel.
He’s probably one of those types who think you can’t shut off a diesel.
Serve’s him right if he left it running.
Unfortunately, Fords are notorious at being an “easy to steal” truck. When my son was in college, he and his girlfriend both drove Ford Galaxy 500s and their car keys were interchangeable! My son’s car came from Texas and he car came from Seattle. Unbelievable.
There's a train engine sitting on a side track about 5 miles from me that has been running for at least a week. How much fuel do these monsters hold anyway?
Back in the 60’s one of the first things most guys I new put on a car when they bought it was a fuel shut off valve (like on dirt bikes). Simple enough to hide down low in the engine compartment and an automatic hedge against the car running more than a few seconds if someone does get it started.
“I don’t care about the truck or the...”
I bet his insurance company does!
In a former life when I used to auction cattle at a Sale Barn, we used to joke about the possum belly rigs out in the parking lot with half a million miles on them and had never been shut off except to change oil a few times. ;oD
Another thing; When you walk down a row of them parked and idling at the truck stop, the one with the engine that rattles and hammers like it is going to fly apart is usually the one that runs the best and fastest out on the big road; or on the “boooleevard” as some of them call it.
A$$hats. You don't out ANYONE you love in the bed of an unattended truck.
Back in my Toyota Supra days i would pull the ignition fuse out if i was parking it in a shady place.
Only took a few seconds but gave me great peace of mind.
The dog on a leash probably would have been allowed in a Bass Pro Shop. Terrible to lose a fiend like that.
