WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama's administration said Thursday it will regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, after legislation on climate change died in Congress.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said it would regulate fossil fuel power plants and petroleum refineries -- which together emit nearly 40 percent of US greenhouse gases -- starting in 2012.

EPA is not about the environment. It should be eliminated. Along with OSHA and all the rest.
If the House lets him get away with it all our efforts have been in vain. If they do we should forget about it and concentrate on State Governments. We need 34 to call out and Impeach the whole Scam. I am hoping we got the House back in American hands again. Next month we will know.

Well if as Obama predicted, “...energy costs would necessarily skyrocket..” I see a point in time that skyrocketing electricity and heating costs, combined with the skyrocketing gasoline prices, rising unemployment and foundering economy that Bam Bam and the wookie are not even going to make it past the primaries for 2012, if not impeachment in the mean time.
I am inclined to defund the EPA and stop it, but then again do we want to win the ideological war or just this battle?
Maybe the ‘moderates’ that elected this Marxist need to have their nose rubbed in the mistake they have made.
Defunding the EPA is a good idea, but Possibly more important is that the extreme left needs to be De-legitimized, and all we really have to do is to stay clear of their ideological collapse, but we should also give thought to giving it a nudge in that direction.
Call me an optimist, but I have faith that the American people will have had enough. Soon. Obama is showing his true colors, and it is Red.

But to the point of the thread, if Americans think their electric rates have gone up enough already get prepared for at least another 50%-100% increase if CO2 control becomes law. It's an investment that will produce nothing - much like spraying gasoline outside an engine and wondering why the power doesn't increase. The government is very good at spraying money outside the capitalistic (economic) engine where it produces absolutely nothing. If we citizens continue to let our government do that the economic engine will grind to a halt. Not much hope that won't happen because most people don't have any idea or rational comprehension how a capitalistic economic engine runs - it isn't taught in school. Basically if you take a commodity like electricity and make it cost more (through regulating SOx NOx mercury etc) with no tangible return for the investment, it's a drag on the economic engine, it decreases its efficiency and if it's allowed to continue it will kill it.
