Travel-trained: Americans Take Security with Sigh (Don't Touch My Junk)
Associated Press ^ | Tue Dec 21, 2010

(snip)

As the Christmas travel week arrives, it appears Americans are getting used to flying under the specter of terrorism and the new inconveniences the government deems necessary to combat it. Most people surrender to body scans and invasive pat-downs with little fuss. Resignation has replaced fear.

(snip)

Outrage over the screenings grew in November. Hundreds of thousands of people viewed a cell-phone video in which a California man resisted a scan and groin check at the San Diego airport with the words, "If you touch my junk, I'll have you arrested."

Some travelers tried to organize a boycott of the body scanners ahead of Thanksgiving, but the movement fizzled, said Airports Council International-North America, which represents airport managers. There were no signs of a revolt this time, either, the organization said.

It fizzled because the TSA backed off on Thanksgiving weekend with all eyes (and news cameras) watching.

Bears repeating:

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away,
only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air

There were no signs of a revolt this time, either,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Except for Warsaw, the Jews didn’t revolt either.

Personally,...I am no longer flying.

Perfect reference.

Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets.

That and with the frequent "reports" of "nothing to see here" by the 4th Branch of Government.

Is it me, or this water water boiling?

"What a surprise!

The look of terminal shock in your eyes!

Now things are really what they seem.

This is no bad dream!"

I'll be flying tomorrow.  Don't know if I'll be posting from jail tomorrow night.  Plan to send WifeOfZeugma through first so she can see her family even if I have 'issues' with the brain dead morons in TSA.

That verse really needs an image to go with it:

Who are the people who think that the TSA makes flying safer? The TSA has NEVER caught a terrorist, and, if the terrorist did not want to be caught, never could catch a determined terrorist. The bombs that the TSA claims it’s looking for can be secreted internally, or worn as a large “pancake” on the abdomen, and thus not alert the screeners.

On the other hand, the TSA routinely exposes the flying public to radiation, with only one disclosed characteristic (the air kerma); other relevant radiation characteristics, like the radiation flux, are hidden. If the radiation flux, machine safety records, maintenance records, operator training, resistance to radiation “spikes,” and other issues addressed by the famous UCSF letter here:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/35498347/UCSF-letter-to-Holdren-concerning-health-risks-of-full-body-scanner-TSA-screenings-4-6-2010

indicated that the machines were safe, then those characteristics would be made public. The fact that important scanner characteristics are hidden is a strong indication that those characteristics do NOT indicate that the machines are safe. It’s therefore likely that, every day, the TSA is causing cancer, such as melanoma, that may kill susceptible persons (those with pale skin, children, those with a history of previous radiation exposure) in a few years. Unlike “regular” melanoma, which generally occurs in sun-exposed (and thus visible) areas, radiation-induced melanoma is probably just as likely to occur in areas that are generally not exposed to light, i.e. harder to see. This is important, because the survival rates for melanoma drop precipitously if it’s not found and excised quickly; if a melanoma gets to a depth of 4mm, for example, 5 year survival drops to 50% in some studies.

Also, the very fact that only people who are willing to tolerate TSA harassment are flying anymore makes everyone on the plane less safe. If you were on a plane trying to stop a terrorist takeover, who would you rather have beside you: the general public, or people who have been selected to submit meekly to unknown radiation exposure or to sexual harassment? Who do you think the terrorists would rather you had beside you?

The most generous thing that can be said about the TSA is that they are a bunch of bumbling clowns. Personally, I don’t agree with that assessment. These are people who are willing to cause cancer in others, and the death and pain that goes with it, for no real benefit to anyone. “Clown” is not the word that comes to mind for someone like that, no matter how bumbling.

It seems to me to be a sad commentary on society’s state of affairs when what was once the “family jewels” is now “junk”..
